Forgive me for the long post.
I took a trip into BRD last night with my 65 Prot warrior to craft a Dark Iron gun for my 50ish hunter. I convinced my brother to run his 70 Arms warrior with me to help with whatever clearing was needed. He agreed since he wanted to pick up the XXL jumper cables. We both ran in our dps gear since it was a lower instance and only put on shields when necessary for the bigger groups.
Here is me:

I was using two of the Footman's Longsword though...got that other sword afterwards. I was in berserker stance whenever possible and was pretty much just spamming devastate and whirlwind.
This is him:

He started out DW'ing that axe and a similar dps cudgel which was a little faster. He then switched to http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=27524;source=live
As you can see nothing about our gear or specs is anything special. We are both average players of roughly equal skill. But I ended up beating him on the damage meters by almost 10%!!! He switched from DW to the 2-H mace about halfway through and closed the gap a little...but not much. We were using similar tactics and I didn't see him doing anything stupid or "wrong". He played just how I would have played if I were him.
QUESTIONS: Please don't take this as me bragging...I really don't care about the meters. I'm just curious as to how this could have happened. I know there are hundreds of variables here..but I wonder if anyone else has encountered this. Was it just because I was doing more consistent damage throughout the instance compared to his spiky 2-H damage? If that is the case than 2-H Arms dps seems like a really bad choice for instance runs. Or was it more likely one of those other variables entirely?
