Even at 70 you should get to wear plate most of the time. You're the only class that even wears healing plate, if it drops it's going to go to you (or another Holy Pally, but that's between you and your guild).
In PvP resil has eliminated the importance of plate. A warlock with high resil is much harder to kill than a paladin wearing no resil but tons of armor.
No. Wow, just... no. Warlocks are tough to kill because of Soul Link, Siphon Life, and their immense HP totals. But you can not marginalize armor in PvP. When you're trying to kill Warriors, Druids, Elemental/Resto Shaman, and Paladins with physical damage... you respect the armor.

In PvE, unless you're prot, you rarely ever get hit and usually if you are taking physical damage in large amounts (enough for armor value to matter) then chances are you're going to die regardless of how much armor you have. Honestly the only up-side of healing in plate, in my opinion, is the fact that plate items have higher durability than cloth does so my gear doesn't break as fast.
No argument here. By all means, wear the superior cloth, leather, and mail if you can get it. But in the end, given a choice, the plate is still optimal most of the time.
