Gear comparison and new stats for Outlands gearFollow

It's time for my level 60 checkup. Now that I'm in Outlands I'm running into the new armor stats. I've been keeping my eye out for cheap "of the Bandit" gear as instructed. Can someone please link me to a not-too-technical description of these new stats I will be seeing (hit rating, etc.) and what they mean? I read all these FAQs but people get so in-depth and start spouting out numbers and percentages, and I really don't want to have to break out a scientific calculator and graph paper just to figure out what to equip. It's very overwhelming. A Level 60-70 Rogues For Dummies would be nice for those of us that aren't mathematically inclined.

Vengeance Boots Of The Bandit
+15 agi, +23 sta, +31 AP
Coal Miner Boots
+10 str, +17 agi, +9 sta

The UI I have running (don't ask which, a friend put together a package for me) was saying the Vengeance Boots were superior except they have a lower crit %. I was going to toss the Coal Miner Boots until I saw the higher crit %. How important is that in relation to other stats? What should be my top priority?

Any other constructive criticism on my current gear selections is welcome and appreciated. Ignore the gun. I rarely use it and there's been a shortage of good thrown weapons at our AH as of late. I'm usually just running around questing with my hubby (warlock) or doing instance runs with friends. Also, this is still a good PvE Combat Swords build, right?

Much love as usual and thank you in advance. Your patience with my newbie questions is always appreciated. (I can't believe I am level 60 and still a newbie.) <3

(Edited for link failure.)

Here is the lazy mans reply:

Quest rewards in Outlands are awesome. I never bothered to stop leveling/questing to gear up, except to occasionally check AH for a weapon upgrade. Many of the quest gear rewards are quite obviously meant for rogues. Doing this, and nothing else, I broke 8,000 hp at level 67.

Yes leveling takes much longer in Outlands, this it might be more enticing to gear, but if you can mostly run on rested xp, you can blow through it too fast to sweat gearing.

Gear is irrelevant at 60, you'll replace gear very quickly in outlands once you start doing instances, dont worry too much about that. The one thing you'll notice is that your stam is going to rocket. Vengeance is better by far by the way, crit is going to dive as you level by around 5% from my Rogue going from 60 to 70, I went from a little over 25% unbuffed to around 20% as I leveled and swapped out gear, thats usually offset by your AP/Stam gains. Crit for swords, not really necessary. Don't worry about your +hit and don't worry about gems (I am sure you can figure out the latter quite easily). My advice to you is to not worry about the 70 stuff yet and just get there first, a lot of the questions you ask or will ask might be answered during your 60-70 grind.

And your 19/42 Combat Swords looks fine, standard stuff, only thing you'll notice is that good swords aren't easy to come by later on around 68-ish. Once you hit 70 go to elitistjerks.com and read their Rogue 101 (someone link prz) to get a better grasp of the Rogue class come raiding time or maxing your DPS.

If you really want a good thrown weapon and you have people that would help, do a quick run into LBRS and grab the thrown from the troll boss.

Basically any full tree spec works great for leveling in Outlands. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

If full combat, spec into relentess and you explode things.

If Shadowstep, also spec into relentless. The damage output is noticeably lower, but with prep you will never die. Also a great spec for escaping ganking. Flying mounts take ganking to a whole new level in outlands.

If mutilate, take 5/5 opportunity, otherwise you will be a little gimped in damage. You will lock down mobs and barely get touched (1v1).

Personally, I specced them all while leveling in Outlands. It was very exciting.

If you're willing to do a little work this will help. go to www.elitistjerks.com. in the class mechanics forum read the roguecraft 101 post. yes, it's got a bunch of technical stuff but you can skip that (i did) and just get the basics. what stats are best. what to use for gems. etc. find the rogue dps spreadsheet thread and download the spreadsheet. there's a link in the first post. if you have MS Excel great, if not you can use the openoffice version. it will download your armory profile or you can put it in by hand. very easy to use to compare various pieces of gear.

frankly i'm not sure the gear you've got will be in the spreadsheet dropdowns since you're so new to outlands. get stuff from doing quests and running instances. your gear will improve quickly. also you have no hit. you need to start upping that.

don't bother buying stuff from the ah. you'll get better from the quests etc.

DrMayhem - Thank you for your advice. Sounds like it's still business as usual - don't stress the gear and just keep trying to level. Also, I'm on a PvE server so thankfully ganking isn't really an issue here. :)

ElementHuman - I do have friends that are taking me to LBRS soon so I will bring it up to them.

ElementHuman and tandemman - I just saw that guide linked in another post. I will go read up right away.

tandemman - I will start upping my hit as soon as I find something, which apparently doesn't sound hard to do. Would you say that's a top priority when it comes to gear selection?

not so much a top priority but it is more important than crit. a lot of outland gear will have some and as you start getting gear that takes gems you want to gem for hit most of the time. the roguecraft 101 will give you some pretty good ideas about that.

Hit isn't a priority till 70 and Kara. You could probably get 150 hit without really trying for certain pieces. Theres a set of crafted throwing knives at 70 (or 68?) thats really good till the second half of Kara.
