Sporebats-Why did Blizz even bother?Follow

Why did Blizz even add sporebats as a tameable pet in TBC?

They are the only pet that cannot learn bite and/or claw, they have no special abilities, no extra DPS/armor/health/dash/dive. I would tame one for the strange looking pet factor, but they are absolutely worthless for holding aggro/dealing damage. Really, how hard would it have been to add dive or bite/claw to them?

Does anyone know if they ever had a special ability (maybe in beta testing)?

I honestly believe that Blizz made them tameable purely so people would ask this question.

It does however annoy me that mst Nether Rays are casters. Except the ugly skinned one! I'd have one of those red ones.

Hunters always complain when beasts aren't tameable. Blizzard didn't really intend for us to use them, but they made it an option to shut people up. That said, some of the spore bats in various sections of Coilfang Reservoir have some special abilities, so it isn't beyond the scope of possibility.

Just because they aren't loaded with abilities doesn't mean that they can't be a good pet. You know?

Yes. It does.

Wait, what skills? I didn't think sporebats had any as tamed nor could they learn any.

They don't have any skills when tamed. They can't be taught any either. I just said that just becasue they can't get skills doesn't mean people won't tame them at all. I have seen many people with them. They didn't know they could not get skills though and when you tell them that they usually abandon them.

Not you, BR. I was referring to Azuarc's comments.

Per Petopia Sporebats can only learn Growl, Cower, and the Passive skills available through Beast Training.

It'd be cool if the bat could buff raids with energizing spores. It'd be a +1 or 2% to stats. Nothing major, but something to consider having.

I'm sure Blizzard would nerf the bats even if the spore buff was only 1-2%. IMO, that is kind of cool, but then a TON of people would have them.

+1/2% stats is actually quite a GIANT buff from 1 pet for the whole raid....
pretty overpowered i'd say.

Meh, 1 - 2 % is what? like +6/7 to your main attribute? Not exactly OP. I mean GoTW is +14 to all stats. It'd just give hunters a bit more utility.

Or it could be an aura thing like the Draeni racial for your group.

Meh, I agree with Aethien. For a SINGLE pet that is a quite large buff.

even if it doesnt stack, GotW is a mean buff to have, giving about half that to the whole raid is insane for just 1 pet...

Hell, that would be more specialized so it might just give people more then GotW does.... and GotW is a special buff from druids.. not something you should compare petskills with.
