Am I right in believing that for a prot pally who is soloing mobs either AoE grinding or just killing something in his way, a high DPS weapon is best?
If so, is there a point where a flat out +Spell damage weapon would be better for this type of play than a high DPS weapon?
For example, if I had the Cyrstalforged Sword with a +40 spell damage enchant on it, would it be better to use than say a more "warriorish" weapon?
Keep in mind that I'm not talking about tanking, but simple world PvE grinding/questing/whatever.
Thanks for the help
It depends on what you're fighting.
For instance, if you're mass grinding on melee mobs while using a petrified lichen guard with a shield spike, then I would grab a crystalforged sword. The main reasons are that a lot of your damage is going to come from casting (holy shield, consecrate) and your shield, and the Crystalforged sword has both spell damage and increased block chance.
If you don't have a shield with a spike, it would be better to go with a Gladiator's Gavel, since spell damage will still be very helpful for you.
If you're fighting casters or anything 1v1, a higher DPS weapon will be better.
