Fire or Arcane?Follow

#1 Feb 02 2008 at 8:26 PM Rating: Decent
I want to put my points into either Arcane/Fire or Fire/Arcane. I like arcane because it adds so much spell damage and mana, but fire deals more damage. So should I put more points into fire (and sacrifice bonus spell damage and crit damage), or arcane (and decrease overall damage done in raids)?

I tried looking on the armory for your character but couldn't find an Ikara on a Thaurissan server.

If you can post your armory link it would be very helpful to give us an idea of what would benefit you more.

If you want, you can go to: http://www.manoutoftime.org/staticpages/index.php/tcom

and import your character and run the different builds to see what would give you the best dps for your current stats.

Rofl actually I haven't played in a while, so my account isn't active. Either that or, God forbid, Blizz killed poor Ikara.

That's my intended Arcane/Fire build right now.

Oh, and you never specifically said what exactly you want to do with the build, do you want to raid, do pvp, etc?

Oh, and Pold, I did a search on both US/EU :-)

I'm playing heavy arcane with 11 points in fire, works really well, look up sanbaasuto on EU armory

ERG my bad sorry guys. Let me reiterate.
I'm a level 70 mage that I want to start playing again after I get more time in my account. Currently he's 40 arcane and 21 fire. I was thinking about changing to this build:

My main goals will be grinding mats for tailoring, as well as constant 5-manning, daily quests, and raids. Your thoughts, please?
Again, I haven't played in a while so Ikara doesn't show up on the US Armory.

A scorch build such as that will do subpar DPS for the raid setting. It's fine for soloing and 5mans. And would work pretty well in PvP.

the raid dps specs nowadays are 11/48/3 or 3/48/11. arcane lost viability because of the MSD nerf. and absolutely forget it without 2 piece T5 bonus.

for 5-mans, arcane/fire will work as fights are short and you can drink a lot, meaning you can spam arcane blast. the scorch build you posted is ok, but scorch is not a powerful main nuke, as it has limited scaling.

if you use arcane missiles/blast as your main nukes, you could also go 11 into frost for icy veins.

i dunno i hear a lot of people saying that fire sucks in pvp, but in my oppinion, they are like any class in that how you play them matters a great deal. my brother has a 70 pyro and he pwns all, even locks with the dog. now im a lock so i destroy mages anyways, but i will tell u that the dps a pyro can throw out is a pain in any players ***. go for the fire man, if u play wisely ull wail on most people, just be sure to get some friends with other classes so u can be used to fighting them

ap/trinket/pom/pyro used to work in pre-bc PvP but since the advent of resilience and much more health it can only be used (assuming a crit) to take down about half of someone's health (at most). Frost provides more survivability and chances for burst damage because of the water elemental and shatter crits. If that pyro doesn't crit it may hit for about 2.5-3k damage which is easily healed through, a frostbolt + icelance double crit hits for about 5.
