OK guys, my warrior is fast approaching level 70, and I'm torn between two possible chestpieces. First, a guildie randomly got this to drop the other day, and he says I can have it. So, it's free, it's plate, and the stats are good. But then, as I was looking over Xordon's list, I realized I could make this with my hunter. I compared the stats, and based on the way I would gem it, strength would stay the same, I would lose 15 stamina and about 800 armor, but I would gain about .6% chance to crit, 8 hit rating, and 1.7% chance to dodge.

So, disregarding the fact that I would have to gether the mats for the leather piece, is it worth it to lose the health and armor? I'm not too familiar with endgame melee dps, so I don't know how much those stats will help me when I'm not the target's main target. As far as I can tell, all of the rest of my gear will be plate, so I'll still have a good chunk of armor. I plan on just doing some general questing when I hit 70, and casual raiding (Kara, and if I get geared enough, Gruul's and Zul'Aman).

Also, I should mention that I'm doing DW fury, and I plan on staying that way as much as possible.

I think you'd definitely want to stay with the plate piece. Armor and health are going to be pretty important, even if you're not tanking. You won't last long in the leather piece. There are plenty of other ways to get your hit rating up. I don't think the extra 1.7% chance to dodge is going to make up for losing that much armor and stamina. The extra strength will be a bigger boost to your AP as well.

OK, I was browsing some of the other forums, and I came across a post by RP in the shaman forums that says it takes 33 agi for 1% crit...where does that number come from? I know wowwiki isn't the absolute authority on things, but it says about 25 agility for 1% crit. Also, if you look at armory pages of warriors (I looked up RP's - he has 125 agility, and it says it increases his crit by 4.93%), the conversion is about 25 agi for 1% crit. Which is it? If it is 33, then I think I definitely go with the chestguard of exile. If it is 25...I'm still torn.

if you gem that chestpiece with +8 str, you'll have +12 str over the chestguard of exile (which i am also wearing atm). the lack of armor is not going to kill you if you are melee dps, since most aoe's are not physical in nature, and you should always be dpsing behind the mob anyway so as to avoid cleaves and giving the mob additional parries and hasted attacks to eat your tank up.

if you can already achieve at least 25% crit unbuffed in battle stance, you are at the point where dps from additional crit < dps from additional AP and armor penetration, and you can reach 10k hp buffed, then i would go for the additional AP from the crafted chestpiece, or go for something like vestments of hibernation which as 150 armor penetration on it.

If I was a DPS Warrior, I would probably end up with at least two sets of gear. One set would be for instance DPS optimized strictly for stats and have a second set for farming and for fights where I might need the extra armor and/or stamina.

So, I would say to take the plate one but work on making that leather one to use for instances where you are not as likely to be taking damage. You might also do some research to see where to find a good plate DPS chest with better stats too to see if it's worth taking the time to make the leather one.

when i used maxdps.com's tool to search for gear upgrades, i found that the vestments of hibernation actually offered a bit more dps than the T4 dps chest, but that essentially that badge chest was among the easiest dps chests to get, along with the crafted T2 bs chest and s2 and s3 chests. the s3 chest ranked just below three chests from hyjal and bt.

if you're like me and you raid sporadically and have no faith in the arena system, then the badge chest offers a 10 dps increase over the chestguard of exile.

I would think for DW you'll want some decent hit rating? A few pieces I have for my dps set: (can't think of it all while at work)

-Doomplate Chestguard & Shoulderguards: +35 hit

Chest: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28403

I've heard a few guildies say that it's better to use a 2H fury build until you have the +Hit needed for DW. But I'm still Prot and haven't respec'd yet to see how my DPS gear works at level 70.
