Talent Build HelpFollow

#1 Feb 01 2008 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
So I was wondering what talent builds would be good to play mainly in PvE?? I will be playing with another palidin at most times, so i wont always be soloing. I also would like to do stuff like Warsong Gulch, and be good at instances and raids. I mainly want to know whether to go fire or ice that will fit my needs the best. Especially in the 40+ to endgame quests/instances/raids. I am usually in groups of 2-4. I am new to the game and just looking for help from you veterans out there :)

at 40 till ~60, fire goes well with a paladin to tank.

60 - 70, go frost and bring your pet paladin to AoE farm with laughable ease.

or, after you get some get some good mana/5 gear (60+), throw on your mage armor and get blessing of wisdom for arcane builds in pvp and pve instances.

I found "The Greatest Mage Post Ever" an invaluable resource when researching builds. If you have a look in that thread, you will find a detailed breakdown of different builds with analysis of their strengths and weaknesses.

If you will truely be playing with an equal level paladin at most times, and he goes Protection, at around level 30 go ice.

There is a special Blizzard build that works so exceptionally well with Paladins that it's relatively insane.

Protection Paladin does not melee damage for much, they stand there and do Damage to all the monsters attacking them with different types of thorns (Retribution Aura, Holy Shield, Shield Spike, Consecrate, ect) so he will be holding agro one 1 monster with the same TPS as a dozen.

Ridiculous -- After the Pally has rounded up his set, give him about 2 more seconds to lock Agro and just Blizzard -- you don't even have to Flamestrike if you don't want, all it takes is Blizzard.

Now if you're soloing, or PVPing, or he isn't going Protection then throw this build out -- its actually very weak if not in the right situation.

Thanks a lot for your guys' input, but I still am kind of looking for a more specific answer on whether pretty much i should go fire or ice. I just want to be the most useful in Raids/instances/group quests and i am not sure whether to go Fire or Ice. But again i do want to be able to fight others in places like warsong gulch and such. Thx again.

Raids don't matter til you hit 70. Both Fire and Ice are useful in 5 mans and group quests. If you want to PvP, the leveling build strategies on frost tends to match well with the PvP build strategies on frost for PvP, so that may affect your decision.

I'm not sure how much more specific these folks can be, though.

So are you saying to go whatever until 70 and re-spec? What would i want to respec to at that point? And so frost would benefit me most at warsong gulch?

Not to go "Whatever" exactly, as I wouldn't recommend Arcane. Some people may like it, I can't in good conscience call it a leveling build. That said, yeah, go either fire or frost, whichever you think you'd enjoy. I also feel frost would be the most beneficial for you in PvP all the way up the leveling path. From the "Greatest Mage Post Ever" you can deduce what talents are strong both in leveling and PvP.

Alright, cool! So just to clear something up for me, Warsong Gulch IS PvP right? Because i will mainly just be playing the main game of quests and stuff, but on occasion will go to Warsong GUlch because a couple of my buddies go there.

Warsong Gultch is one aspect of PvP. It's one of 4 battlegrounds. Between those and arenas, that's the majority of PvP in the game. World PvP is also to be considered as well.

Alright! You guys have helped me out a ton. I might post later if i have anymore questions. Thanks.

Oh yeah,i did have one question... How much would it cost me to go up in the fire tree till around level 40-70 (I'm not sure) and then switch to ice for some PvP? And if i follow the guide lines in the greatest mage post ever, i will have to be changing most of my talents. So how much would it cost to switch pretty much an entire tree over?

If you've never respecced before, 1g. If you've respecced before, 5g or more depending on how many respecs you've done and how long it has been since the last one.

you don't pay per talent point, you pay to wipe the entire thing clear. your first respec costs 1g, then 5, 10, 15 and so on to max out at 50g. each month you do not respec I believe it goes down 5g.
