Heroic Strike/DevastateFollow

#1 Feb 01 2008 at 5:56 PM Rating: Decent
Being able to use Heroic Stike and Devastate at the same time, I was thinking a good Rage dump would be to use them both at the same time. I was thinking a macro would help but my skills in creating a macro suck. Any suggestions?

devastate is an instant cast and HS is a next swing attack, so they're not really "at the same time". you can spam devastate and still hit the HS button whenever you have some excess rage. i guess you could make a macro, but it doesn't seem like it would be all that useful and it would fill up an extra button slot.
two /cast commands would do the trick i think...

*H.Strike does not reset timers, as FletusSanguine so kindly put it, maybe my flexbar was messed up the time I was paying attention to it* :/
The only thing I really don't like by using H. Strike is it resets your timers when it goes off. I tried it on Currator, and hated it. It really did dump my rage, but I had to wait the 1-2 seconds to Shield slam/Shield block/Revenge on Currator, which is nothing at 1st, but over the course of the fight that's a lot of seconds off.

After that fight I went back to just spamming Devastate, and Slamming, blocking, revenging and hold threat just fine. Not to mention you get more attack per devistate (up to 5), I don't feel like doing the math, and I know the 1/2 of weapon damage hurts, but let's face it... I'm not there to be a 'DPS'er'.

I'd love to see some math on Devastate & H. Strike threat Vs. straigh spamming Devastate adding slams, revenges, and blocks in a constant. It's bad enough Revenge resets your timers too :/ However, I've adjusted that by Slamming, blocking, then revenging, then back to spamming Devastate

I'm sure people will tell me that's wrong.. but until I can't hold a Mages back to back crits with my method, I'll have to keep doing how I'm doing it Smiley: wink

Gyff, heroic strike doesn't activate the global cooldown bro. Go out and grind and hit HS, and just HS. It doesn't effect any ability BUT HS. Your icon will light up to show that it has be queued up, but it has no effect at all on ANYTHING else. There is NO reason not to use it. The difference in math is simple. It's whatever you're doing with just a devasate spam, except more. You ARE wrong in this case, and if you simply don't use HS at all, you're tanking inefficiently. Which is all well and good, but to say the reason that you don't use HS is because you think it does something it does NOT do is not only personally misguided, but you're also giving flat out wrong information to people that might look at this post and NOT know better.

Just tested it again on some trash mobs. I admit I must have seen something I did not on that Currator fight. Ooops. Oh and btw can you plz say 'your wrong once more' I did not catch it the 1st 20 times in your short post.

Maybe my flexbar was acting up? I don't know but I did see a CD on that fight for some reason. I tried it for the full fight, and each time I see the little whirlwind icon (like it was refreshing my toolbar after h. strike went off).

I'm not too proud to say I must have seen something wrong.

However, never say "you're tanking inefficiently", you've never seen me tank. One wrong observation and I'm crusified... way to pass judgement too quick man.

Why do u want a macro when u can just use them both?

For instance if i have over 60 rage its just smash 3 and 5 (3 = HS 5 = devastate) while my mouse is over shieldblock and revenge when its up. There is no need for a macro, esp if you like bashing, your keyboard that is.

Ew, clicking. :P Hotkeys > clicking :)

And it was prob'ly some sort of error with your mod, Gyff. Or it might have done the clock effect but not actually triggered the GCD. I can't count how many times I've seen that happen.

Don't take it to heart man. I hardly crucified you, you're being a tad over dramatic. It IS tanking inefficiently. If there's something you CAN mix into your rotation and are not, simply because you don't want to, would you call that inefficient? That would be pretty much the textbook definition of it. It wasn't a personal attack, so don't take it as such.

I just noticed I DID say you're wrong a lot in that post, though. Heh. Attribute the repetition to making the post at the tail end of a 36 hour stint of being awake from work/school/life and trying to stay awake long enough to make my raid for the night. For the record, I slept like a baby after the raid.

I honestly don't know, in regards to why you saw the little whirlwind. There's a possibility that it might be an flexbar issue. Maybe try updating it. I had to update my CT the other day because RA was having an issue since it was an older version. It was COVERING my normal raid window, and as a result I wasn't able to form raids or do anything inside of the raid window even if someone else formed it and then promoted me. It was odd, but an update fixed it.

When I find myself with a good full rage bar I often will hit my Troll Berzerk and start spamming HS while hitting my other tanking skills as their cooldown expires. I can go from 100 to 0 rage in seconds and my TPS jumps way up as well. Of course I only do this on fights where I don't have to worry about moving around or keeping enough rage on hold for Shield Bash interupts. I feel that if I have a full rage bar, I am wasting resources that I should be using.

Ah np man. I reloaded my Flexbar (since I'm a clicker). That's the only reason I could think it was messing up. I will start using that on Maiden, Nightbane- Prefligh... still need rage for skeles tho, Prince, and others now. You're right, I'm just wasting any rage over 100... so use it. I might actually move up on my dps standings from now on Smiley: lol, I never really thought of throwing it in there, since what I was doing was keeping aggro off our best geared dps'ers, up to Eagle boss, more dps would never hurt I guess.

I suppose that's why I still hop on the forums daily. I still learn, and will never say "I know everything about <current class I play>"

Oh and my response was a bit 'short', it was late... and I was grumpy Smiley: motz<---me lol
