A couple of questions that I figure yall could help me with. First off, I read a thread in here relating to taming beast quest. The NPC that gives the quest says tame the boar, tiger and bear for 15 min w/o losing its attention. After I went thru the process of getting my *** whooped (sorta)and taming the boar, it only stuck around for about 8 minutes even though the little timer in the corner onder my pet said i had 7 min left. When I went to the NPC again he said to go tame a leopard and the same thing happened then once again with the bear.
After the bear was gone I went back to the NPC and he told me to go to Ironforge and finish the quest like it said on different threads that Ive been reading.
My question about this is: Even though the beast didnt stick around for all 15 min is that going to affect the way I tame pets or how long they stick around?

And for my other non-hunter related question. I get about 30-90 exp per kill depending on what I'm fighting. Is that about the norm or should I be getting more/will I get more per kill a little later, cause it seems to take for ever.
I play FFXI and the thing that drew me towards WoW is I can play that most of the way solo, but if 50 exp per kill is average then I'll just go back and level something on that game. I dont really want to tho as I am enjoying the money aspect of this game better and the less complicated style of playing (for now at least).
BTW im a level 10 dwarf hunter on a PvE server with no Guild i guess yall call it, and no one irl that I know that plays it. So any help you guys can give would be much appriciated.

P.S. sorry for the wall-o-text-ishness of that post.

To my knowledge, if you successfully completed the quest you should be fine. Now you just have to go to IF and do the quest that lets you feed pet and you will be good to go!
To directly answer your question, no that won't affect future pets. Keep your pets happy by feeding them (see the hunter stickies) and they'll stick around.

As per your other question, exp scales by level. You get more exp per kill as you level up. I'm lvl 48 right now and I'm getting something in the neighborhood of 400 exp per kill depending on the mob's level.

If I am wrong about any of this I'm sure I will be quickly corrected by those wiser than I :)

I never noticed a timer on the tame quest, have 3 hunters now. Once you finish the quest you can tame a pet and it will stay with you as long as it is happy. That is where the next step comes in, you learn mend pet and feed pet along with what the tamer quest taught you. I know there are 5 skills forget which gives them, but you need all of them. So learn the skill and feed your pet until it is happy (the icon turns green) feed slowly as the extra food is wasted. It might take a while to get full loyalty (level 6)
The points you get depends on the level of the mob, and if you rest by staying in an inn, your XP bar goes blue and you get double XP. It does go up some, so try to find mobs close to your level (1-2 below) is fine. With a good pet, you will knock them out so fast, you be at 20 in a couple days

Just remember to logout in a city or inn to get rested bonus and the levels will go by faster. At 53 with rested bonus I'll get around 700xp per kill on level 56 mobs. Once you hit Outland you'll be getting around 20,000xp for turning in quests and the like, so like said above, it scales with the levels.

Really all you need to do for the taming quests is tame the beast, head back to the trainer and pickup the next training quest. The reason they tell you to keep the pet for 15 mins is so you can get a feel for the Tank, DPS and well rounded pets(if there are any). Be happy you had the pet disappear, usually when you "set the pet free" he'll attack you and you'll either have to kill it, run away or die to lose the aggro.

The rest of the pet quests teach you how to train your pet with skills like Growl, Bite and Claw. They will also teach you how to feed your pet, if you don't feed your pet he'll eventually run away.

Basically don't worry about the quest beasts despawning, it shouldn't effect your newly tamed beast at all. Just remember to feed it and let it participate in fights to gain loyalty.

Awesome all. TY for your posts. Did get the quest finished now doing other quest with my Bear and its 20x easier and 50exp per kill is ok when I kill a bunch of mobs at the same time. I guess smoe other questions while I'm here.
1. I got a "green" bow that it said I cannot use. Is that normal that i can use the bow? It was a lvl 6 bow and I could purchase the arrows, but the bow itself was red meaning I cant equip it. I talked to the hunter trainer and under marksmanship it didnt have any options for bow like I saw for mail or dual wield, for example. And are bows worth it for dwarves since we have natural gun skill?

Second and last question for now at least. Is marksmanship (MM?) or beastmastery (BM?) better to have with my talents? I'm going to ignore survival for now, but I was trying to read the "discussion" on WoW.com and all I saw was quotes like "what? are u stoopid?" and "ur a 12 yr old". Any intellegent answer probably passed me up cause of the abbr. yall use in this game are way over my head.

Ninja edit: Once a pet has a loyalty of 6 and I put it away will it lose some/all of its loyalty while its in storage?

Ok, thats it for now I swear. Ty for helping me be less n00bish.

You need to visit the weapon trainer to learn how to handle a bow. As a dwarf you'll not have this skill from start.
The trainer which shows you how to use your bow is in Darnassus (Ilyenia Moonfire).
You get there with a boat from Menethil in the Wetlands clicky.

Which type of weapon you use is not that important. As a racial ability you get 1% extra crit chance when using guns, thats it.
So if the bow is better (thus better dps value and/or better stats on it), use it.

Most consider a beast mastery (yes, it is BM) spec as the best spec for leveling.
However leveling as a MM specced hunter can be fun as well. Chose the tree which has the talents more appealing to you. You can level fast and easy to 70 with either BM or MM spec. SV (survival obviously) only gets good once you hit 70 and get a lot of equip to make the spec work.

No, it won't lose loyalty (and not even hapyness) while it is "in storage".

edit (somehow pressed on post to early):
Have a nice start into WoW. It is pleasent to get to know a new noob which is not a n00b.
As long as you write understandable and well forumlated posts, you'll likely get all of your questions answered.
For the basic information I strongly recommend reading the Hunter FAQ which is one of the stickys in that forum. It should provide you with a lot of useful information and prevents you from asking a question which is asked a lot.

Happy hunting!
