MS+DW is it viable?Follow

#1 Feb 01 2008 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
I just joined a guild that is almost pure raiding , which is loads of fun. The problem comes in when we have our MT a pally and our OT warrior both in the party , where do I fit in as a worthy addition.I was speced 2h mace MS which I use for PVP. We found that during a Kara raid my MS really helped with Illhoof and others but my DPS was a lacking.I really like the DW mostly because I like jumping on casters and ******** up spells , also i like the look (yes I said it,looks do mean something to me)and the speed. So I have hymmed and hawed , wracked my brain and came up with a few specs but they just don't feel right.
Am I wasting my time should I just bite the bullet and stop trying to walk a fence that just won't hold? I went Axes/MS/DW with fury talents down to flurry w/ 3 points in it.
Please master warriors aid is needed.

whatever spec you use, dual wielding with MS = epic fail, because MS is dependent on weapon damage, and 2h weapon damage >>> 1h weapon damage. if the cd on MS while dual wielding could be reduced to something like half, then maybe it would be viable, but otherwise MS must only be used with a 2h.

if you must insist on dpsing with a 2h, you can spec 33/28, 31/30 or even 17/44 builds, but all of these builds must include 2/2 imp slam, and 17/44 can only be used if you exceed 3k AP when fully buffed (3k AP is the breakpoint at which 2h BT > 2h MS). much of your dps will come from slam spams. it would also be worthy to note that if you can consistently maintain a fast enough fully buffed weapon speed with a 2h (not sure what it is, definitely between 2-3 seconds per swing), then you should go ahead and dps with the 2h as dual wielding with the same effective haste buffs might end up with the offhand wasting flurry charges.

Thank you for responding and answering my question , but in closing what do you think? With an MT and an OT already set for Kara runs what is more useful MS/2h weapon for the 50% heal reduction or DW fury for pure DPS fun? Or is this one of those " whatever I like " Or is this a "go level up my mage", sort of issue.

Seriously thanks for the help in advance.

DW fury is much better personal DPS
2Handed arms is better raid DPs with the +4% damage when u crit or rend

i went dw fury as it so much more fun, and the pace is so much faster than:

swing....3 seconds of nothing......Swing.....MS(parry).......3 seconds of nothing............swing......slam..........swing.......MS(miss)*GODDAMIT*

couple things:

get a slower 2H
stand behind the mob
get more hit

2H only needs 9% to hit total ever. then you will not miss, but you'll still have dodge to worry about (2% less with any dps spec, so 57 expertise will take care of the rest after you have your 9% to hit (143 rating), yes those are maximum values, yes you want them).
D/w needs 9% to hit, but more doesn't hurt.

With your current gear (EU server?) it looks like you have ~8% to hit.

Yeah, I know, it looks like your still gearing up.

I'd suggest 2h because it requires less hit to be proficient. Sadly, many mobs in kara are immune to bleed effects, which negates blood frenzy from being a useful talent spec.

If you WERE to go back to 2h dps, don't use MS for dps. Use slam, get imp slam.

MS is 2x the rage of slam, for only a little more per hit. If you get a good swing timer addon (I recommend quartz; ace2 mod), and have decent latency, you'll find you can slam effectively for a good amount of dps. And if you white crit, you can even put out a MS or WW every once in a while too.

With your gear, you wont be getting 5+ rage per second on a 2h. So you wont be hitting MS every cooldown. Yes it's a nice ability to keep the mob from healing, but usually you can time it so that you can apply the buff right before a heal or during a HoT, while keeping your rotation of abilities pretty secure.

you'd be losing about 100+ personal DPS by going 2h from d/w.

4% improved physical raid dps on a 10 man isn't really worth it. 1-2 tanks (very low physical dps, very low usefulness for them), ~3 healers (no use to them), potentially 5-6 physical dps (very unlikely, as casters have some great advantages to melee in kara). If your raid is in equal lvl gear, doing about ~400 dps personal, that's ~80-96 raid dps gained.

If they are better geared than you, say 500 dps personal, that's 100-120 dps gained though, but only if your whole group is physical dps.

-BUT THIS IS ONLY ON MOBS THAT TAKE BLEED DEBUFFS-.

With your gear, do not go BT and 2h, 31/30 is still superior to 17/44 for 2h until you have some better gear (say, 3k ap unbuffed.)
