Is Shred not direct damage? related macro QFollow

I know it "obviously" is direct damage, I mean there's no over-time portion and no debuff. However, it appears to me that shred does NOT break maim. Usually the auto-attack immediately following shred does, but if I can shred without auto-attacking, maim doesn't break.

So I've got 2 questions:
1. Is this the way it works, or is maim just breaking later due to lag?
2. If it is the way it works, does this macro look like it would work to shred without starting autoattack?

/stopattack

I've never tried to Shred with an eye on specifically not having an autoattack hit the mob too, but as you seem to know Shred is definitely supposed to break Maim. I'd say either it's lag or you discovered something veeery interesting that Blizz would fix ASAP. In any case it'll be the first thing I test when I log on next. : )
