Does +heal affect when you downgrade healsFollow

I am currently a level 64 spriest. My plus healing is around +420ish. Yesterday I ran Mana Tombs again. Grrr. On boss pulls I put up VT/VE and SW:P. 1st Group makeup: 66 warrior tank, 64 affliction lock, 65 spriest, me at 64sprest, 66 boomkin. I was the main healer. Multiple wipes due to those damn mana burner critters.

I decided to try and use GHeal rank one and spammed it on the tank. I don't know that it did any better than using Gheal rank 2. I still ended up using almost all my mana healing the fights. I kept renew up on the tank and dps if needed but mostly just spammmed the GHheal rank 1.

I use healbot and have the alert set to go off at 70%.

My question is, is downgrading your heals tied into how much + healing you have?

Or is it just a matter of timing when to start the actual heals?

Our second group make up was 3 - lv 70s one warrior tank, two rogues, the same lock and me. It was both easier and harder to heal this as the 70's just pulled everything in sight and went to town. LOL. Gotta love those guildees. I also used the Gheal rank 1 on the warrior tank. It worked better on him, I think because he had more health and armor than the first guy did.

Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

Short answer, yes. You do not get as much benefit from +healing when casting GH1 as when casting your max rank GH. However, you will get enough benefit that it will still be your most mana-efficient single target direct heal, though at 70 GH2 will be nearly as efficient and somewhat more powerful.

Wowwiki has a much more specific discussion on the subject, including all the relevant forumlas and number crunching.

Your first group were appropriately leveled for regular Mana Tombs. Your second one grossly overpowered it. My guess is that your problem was your tank wasn't good at getting aggro on groups--those mana burners shouldn't have been looking your way. Thankfully, when you get to level 68, Prayer of Mending will help enormously with that problem.

Yep, the 70's were either guildees or friends that came to help. It's fun to watch them work too, they just DPS like crazy. Thanks for the quick response.

P.S. number crunching...ugh...I hate math. LOL
