Leveling methods from 60-70Follow

#1 Feb 01 2008 at 9:24 AM Rating: Decent
So I am rapidly approaching level 60 with my shadow spec priest and I know that 60-70 is where the real grind begins. I am curious as to what people feel they have the most success with. Solo Shadow spec? Instances? If instances as shadow or holy? I would greatly appreciate any and all imput as I really want to get to 70 to start doing 25 man with my guild. Thanks in advance for all who give their imput.

2-man quest stacking. i track my xp-per-hour using titan panel. i only play on rested xp:

120,000+ xp/hr: AoE grinding with my mage in HFP
100,000 - 110,000 xp/hr: quest stacking (use Jame's leveling guide)
100,000 - 150,000 xp/hr: quest stacking while in 2-person group (my priest & a friend's same-level paladin). 2player and 3player quests are easy to complete, too.

i'm holy because paladin judgements buff holy damage. otherwise, i'd be shadow.

Edit:
Instances are more fun, have nice loot, and are a nice break if you're bored with doing the same quests for the 3rd character. But... they are not good for fast leveling. The time spending forming and gathering a group, as well as wipes & afk's, make for a lot of /played time that isn't earning xp. Plus there aren't many quests to complete.

I have 3 toons in Outland(s) right now. My hunter is grinding up the last 2 levels by just killing skinnable mobs for my LW plus instances for gear. Leaves more quests for money for EPIC flying mount. I have quested to Terrokar forest.

On my Spriest lvl 64 right now, I either solo quest in Zangermarsh or Instance. Going to save most of the quests to do for money instead of XP. I get invites all the time to instances to heal, so that isn't a problem.

Use a leveling guide like Jame's. It's great and it's free. I currenlty use it for all my toons.

Just my 2 coppers worth.

I've never tried tag teaming the quests in OL but if you say it works I'd believe you since there are at least 6 group quests sitting in my hunter's quest log atm.

Like ixidoria mentioned, Jame's leveling guide is a nice framework. I don't follow it exactly because I don't like playing WoW in windowed mode. Instead what I recommend doing is downloading two additional mods:

1. TomTom
2. Lightheaded

I'm sure all of us spend a decent amount of time alt-tabbing to go look up coords etc on alla, thottbot, or wowhead. What those two mods do is to provide a link to wowhead's quest database without alt tabbing and it has linkable coords. So when you open your quest log you will see some user posted comments and any coords will be highlighted in blue. Clicking the highlight will automatically put a x,y loc on your map. You can queue up as many coords as you want. So for my hunter I arrive in a new town, pick up all the quests, link all the coords, and then make a big loop around the map completing quests. Works out very nicely, dunno how I leveled toons before I had these mods.

I've always used Jame's guide. I don't think you said if you're alliance or horde. Currenly Jame has 60-70 out for Alliance. He only has 60-65 out for Horde, but I believe he's currently working on the rest.

You'll definitely want to level solo if you're interested in getting it done fast though...plus having the headaches of groups is not worth it in my opinion!

Good luck my friend!

I have had no problems getting my shadow priest to 66 (almost 67) just following the normal zone/quest progression. 90% solo with a few groups for the group quests. I have both damage (+400) and healing (+600) gear in case I get invited to an instance for healing when I have the time.

If you have blocks of time and a consistent group (like the pally/priest team) then instances are really great either as holy or shadow. From my experience expect all invites to request a healer.

If you have to solo more than a small percentage of time I do (kids seem to interrupt a lot :) ) then holy is an utter pain to solo with. At least put the 11 points into shadow for mind flay or go strong disc/minor holy.

I see no problems easily going through the zone/quest progression as a solo shadow priest. At 70 then you can choose your spec and start getting good gear. Until then gear is going to be replaced anyway.

Do all the quests in Hellfire, Zangar, and Terokkar for sure, that should get you at least Heroic keys if not almost to Revered with 3 of the major factions. Get all the quests for a dungeon and then run each one at least once; you may want to search for particularly good gear and try to grind out for them.

Starting about level 65/66, you may want to start spending a disproportionate amount of time either just grinding or instancing, and then doing all the quests once you hit 70. That can rack up a TON of gold (12g/quest), but means you may be doing something that's incredibly boring to you for 4 levels. If you are grinding, find the BoP recipes that drop outside of dungeons for your professions and grind on those mobs until you get them all. I ended up grinding a full level on the damn ogres for the +15dmg to bracers enchant >.>
