I finally got my warrior to Hellfire (prot from lvl 13) and I was just wondering.

what level is acceptable for tanking Ramparts? I was planning on doing it at 60. any reason this wouldn't work with some outland gear and a competent group?

if you get a decent group you could tank it from level 58 really. The dragon boss is a Richard to fight though.

If you did your fair share of BRD in your 50's, you'll have enough fire res gear to get the last boss down. Other than that you only ever need skill, so if you're skilled (and geared) you could tank it at 58.

Just make sure you are tanking it with Outlands gear, not Azeroth gear. Green or Blue, it doesnt matter for ramps, just make sure they are from the Outlands.

i started tanking ramps at 60 with about 1/2 outlands gear and it went fine. i died a couple times when our retadin healer went oom, but no party wipes.

it will go a lot smoother on your first run if you being someone experienced with the instance along; other than that, it's a very quick and simple instance.

Also, bring some good CC. Hardest pulls aren't too bad, sometimes will have a 5 pull, but with a good sheep or ice trap or whatever and some decent multitanking you can pull it off pretty easy.

Isn't there some danger, at 58, that you won't hit the mobs enough to keep threat? I ask because I have a warrior that just turned 58 and I was thinking that I'd need to get to 60 before trying to tank ramps.

Thanks

for prot spec, like the OP, holding threat shouldn't be hard. the danger to trying to do it as soon as you ding 58 is that your gear is going to be pretty bad. i think i was at less than 4k health when i first got to outlands.

at least get the first few quests done for some major gear upgrades, and you will probably hit 59 or 60 by that time anyway.

Highest mobs you can encounter on normal Ramps is level 62, ie orange. Could be tough... depends on your weapon skill and expertise. That's only bosses though, most other stuff is 58-60 or 61. In any case it's no extreme gap, so it's easily filled.

Update:

I ran ramparts at 58 with my newly respecced prot warrior, with probably half outlands gear, and had a bit of a hard time as an off tank. I wasn't able to consistantly hit mobs to keep up the rage I needed to hold aggro. Eventually, my role degraded into the healers personal body guard (which was successful).

Since then, I hit 60 and have all outlands gear now. I am tanking ramps without any trouble at all.

With the outlands gear, I went from 4500 health and 5000 armor to about 6800 health and 8300 armor.
