I don't know if you can solo him. As for how to get to him, go to Dire Maul West (need a key to get it). When you enter the instance, you will come to a courtyard. In the courtyard will be a bunch of walking tree guards. You have to kill every one of the roaming tree guys (the ones standing in groups here and there can be left alone, as can the group of elementals in the middle). Straight across the courtyard is a ramp that leads down to another courtyard, Warpwood is down there.

If you don't kill every single one of the roaming tree guys, they will show up at some point during your fight with Warpwood and likely own you.

I sense a pally in search of his epic mount...good luck, it is worth it, IMO.

I duo'd him with a warrior in my mid 60's. He wasn't that tough to take out, but I would definitely recommend you take at least 1 person.

The key that lets you enter Dire Maul West drops from the last boss in Dire Maul East. It's a relatively short instance that a small group of 60+ people can blow through pretty quickly. Then you won't have to worry about lockpicking, seaforium charges, or dying/rezzing on the other side of the wall.

If you don't mind PUGs, put out a call in general chat indicating that you're going to Dire Maul and that anybody who wants is welcome to join you. Other pallies and warlocks may need to run Dire Maul West for their epic mount quests, people trying to level cooking without fishing can get a recipe to do so in Dire Maul East, and people holding on to various librams and other "quest books" can turn them in at Dire Maul North. Plus on my server it seems a large number of people joined WoW after TBC (like I did) and are simply curious to experience the old content dungeons in Azeroth.

The key doesn't drop from the last boss in East, it drops from the imp guy you chase around and he eventually turns into a boss, but it's not at the end.

I stand corrected; you are obviously quite right.

You don't even need to clear all of DM East in order to get the Crescent Key. It really is a very short effort to go and grab it in the course of completing your epic mount quest.
