DPS not cutting it in raidsFollow

As the topic says, I'm consistently lagging behind in my DPS during Kara. I think I have fairly decent gear, though I admit my knowledge of WoW is more centered around my Paladin than my Lock. So, I'm thinking about a respec. My current Demo/Affl build I was using for some PvP, but that didn't really last long, so this is strictly going to be for PvE. Looking at my gear I don't have much crit, and I don't play my Lock as often as I'd like, so would a full Affliction build be more appropriate for me?

Thanks for any advice I may get. Gonna go mess around with the talent calculators before I respec and see what I can come up with.

EDIT: sorry, my armory is the third link in my sig ;)

One of my main suggestions would be too work on increasing your spell hit since resist are probably one of the biggest things reducing your DPS. Also with your current spec an affliction build would probably be the best since you don't yet have the stats for Destro yet. They're are a few variantions of the spec but 40/0/21 would probably work best.

Thanks for the response. I'm sure its in an FAQ, but in case I skip over it as I look, what are the min/max for Spell Hit?

I can't exactly tell you the minimum thats up to each specific guild and things but I'd go for at least around 100 but probably a little more the max is 202 and that should be your goal since suppression is really only used as a filler talent. That is not to say its useless if you are under 202 it will help but you should still try and get +hit gear. Hope that helps.

Thanks again :) I did a respec to a mostly Affliction build, and made note that I need to look for some spell hit items. Also will be working on some enchants for my gear as I get time and money to do so. Between gearing my Tankadin for hydross and farming for my Hunter's Ebon Netherscale/Netherdrake Helm - we'll see ;)

And I know my spec probably isn't "ideal", but I really wanted to keep my utility with the Improved Healthstone and Imp. Not got to test it out yet, but we'll see how it goes :)

Gonna have to disagree with Twirdman. Ruin w/o going deeper into destro and with your gear is not going to provide equal dps to UA. Go 41/0/20 and get real comfy watching your dot timer.

Ok, I tried out this respec, and I saw a slight increase to my overall DPS, but I'm still running down around 4th in Kara. Is this where a Warlock (Affl) generally is sitting?

I do my best to keep my DoTs running at all times on boss fights and the trash with higher health pools, and for trash that die off pretty fast I generally put up a Corruption, maybe Siphon Life as well, then start throwing Shadow Bolts. Is this "proper", or should I rethink my spell rotation a bit?

My apologies for seeming kind of noobish. I started asking for advise from one of our guild's Locks, but never got any responses from him :( So, I really appreciate the responses here :)

About what is your raid makeup and how are they geared. If you are in a high DPS grp and they out gear you I could see you being 4th; however, that does seem a little low. Also no offense but skill is a very important thing and it could just be because they are better. My recomendation would be to gear up and get a little practice. Also unless your guild specifically asked you really don't need shadow embrace or iHot. Again hope that helps.

Our Kara runs vary from week to week depending on who's on. For the most part we try to balance it out having a few lesser geared toons in with better geared ones. Generally we have at least one Shadow Priest, Mage, Rogue, and Holy Paladin, but the rest is too varied.

I'd say for the most part I'm about on par with the other DPS that I'm with (gear wise). I'm most often tanking with my Paladin, so don't get to spend much time with this guy, so I am admittedly not as skilled with him as I could be. That could be the problem, and maybe I just need to play around some more, while running more Heroics for Badges. Seems like only Badge gear and Kara gear are real upgrades for me, but I may have missed some drops in my search.

I know that many will disagree with me but while doing Kara you can get by on some arena gear. On that note I suggest trying to get the season 1 staff. It has a decent amount of spell hit and spell dmg. Some other pieces can be used but the weapon is definitely a good starting point to get good gear for Kara.

I have yet to see a class where the arena weapon isn't at least a decent choice, except maybe tanks. You don't want to go overboard with the PvP gear, but the weapons are almost always reasonable.

If you are starting Karazhan and have S1 gear you´ll be fine.
Except maybe the tank should have defence-rating instead of resilience.

Unless you, like me, take pride in not having single PvP thing. Yeah, my HH exalted sword is crap compared to S1 but it took me much more effort than afking in BGs to get it.

I might look into some PvP gear. I like PvP, I just hate the atmosphere of PvP that other players bring: the constant bickering, the "put-down" macros of the opposite team, etc.. Takes all the fun out of it for me.

Im able to keep up with the DPS on trash by starting with UA, Corruption, then SB till I dont think I have time to get one off, then Ill shadowburn and searing pain.

On bosses, just keeping all 5 dots up and shadowbolting I have no problems being top DPS.

Unless trash is a real problem for your raid I don't think you should really worry about it and in kara it would be kinda wierd if a lock led in trash dps. Focus more on not pulling aggro. It slows the raid down alot more having to rez then re-buff a toon than it does to slow down on the dps and take a few more seconds to clear trash. As for boss fights I don't remember running WWS for kara so I can not be certain but I don't think I was 1st or 2nd in damage until SSC/TK. Mainly spend your time in kara learning about beams and not standing in the fire, it will serve you well later on. :P
