This is sort of a "hey, cool!" post, nothing really asked in here.

I've found, if the conditions are right, I can actually get pounce-FFF-mangle-shred-shred in at the start of a fight. This involves OoC proccing, as well as being talented for it (2/2 brutal impact and 2/2 shredding attacks) in addition to mashing the keys fast enough (and probably a little bonus from lag) but when you can get that massive openning chain in...it really helps a fight out.

Nothing like when I crit mangle 1300+ then shred for 2200 and ooc procs and shred again for 2k+. Sometimes mob dies outright, before pounce wears off. Funny.

I'm still 62, but about half the fights I have with level 63 caster mobs end with me having the same or more health than I started. After my openner they usually start casting or auto-attack (a lot of the time I get lucky and dodge) and I can just maim and then play rogue by going behind them and waiting til I can shred again.

I usually don't maim, unless it's a caster casting somehting bad or I am playing. Because oftentimes maiming only slows down your kill rate. At least in the context of when I am grinding, which is mostly just doing dailies.

Heh, I love that ~60% of the time I can kill mobs before they turn around. I farmed my way to exalted with Scryers in about 2 days and never needed to eat, drink or rest.

Boomkin isn't quite the same :/ although I can 2 shot mobs often enough :P

That's my standard opener, man. It used to be a "sometimes easy, sometimes tricky" proposition for me too, and I never knew why, but then I found an addon that gives me total control of the "condition" that makes it easy to land this sequence every time.

Here's the trick, my fine furry friend: Did you know that energy technically "ticks" even when it's at 100/100? So if you get an addon that shows the ticks (I use RogueFocus) you can Pounce JUST before your energy ticks and it regenerates 20 energy immediately, effectively reducing the energy cost of Pounce from 50 to 30 and making it so you have plenty of energy throughout the sequence to Pounce/FFF/Mangle/Shred/OoCShred.

A level 70 Troll Mage was harassing my level 60 Paladin in Hellfire Peninsula the other day, so I logged on my Druid and went a-gankin'.

After the Mage had tried to one-shot me with an Arcane Power-Presence of Mind-Pyroblast crit in mid-flight, I flew up high, shrugged off the damage (it did 5k damage with Ignite and I have, what, 9k health in Flight form?), used Rejuvenation while in free fall and quickly returned to Flight form.

When the Mage sat down to drink, I swept down, shifted to Cat form in the air (Feline Grace, or whatever the skill is called, is gold) and entered Prowl. The Mage probably sensed something was wrong so he stood up and used Mana Shield.

Ravage - crit
Omen of Clarity proc
Mange - crit
Shred - crit
Omen of Clarity proc
Shred - crit
Ferocious Bite - crit

I am not kidding when I say I probably disconnected him with that much damage done. Even with Mana Shield up my Ravage crit did 2800 or so damage to him.

Well, the condition that I can't control is an OoC proc.

Seems like I get an Omen of Clarity proc on the opening moves about 25% of the time. It's so often I'm actually disappointed when it doesn't.

If I'm in cat form, I'm usually soloing, and then I'm chatting with people and not really paying attention. Sad but true. I just do whatever I feel like doing, and often open with ravage just to make the fight quicker.

If you were talking openers for tanking, then I could talk your head off about what I do in which situation.

Right, I've just seen lots of people say it's tight timing for them to hit the Pounce/FFF/Mangle/Shred/Shred sequence with an OoC proc or Pounce/FFF/Mangle/Shred without one. You talked about conditions being right AND "mashing keys fast enough" which made me think that might be the case for you too. With the ticktiming method the last shred (first with no OoC or second with) is easy to get in every time. Happy pouncing, everybody! : )

I got the lowbie version of this while in the Badlands on my Druid yesterday. Killing those damn rock elementals (Immune to bleeds is a killer) I had a fight go like this:

Pounce
Shred - crit
Shred - crit
Claw - crit
FB - crit

I was so happy 'cause otherwise those immune to god knows what mobs take forever. I also remember grinding for the Sigil of Strom quest in Strogarde and killing a few of the warlocks before they turned round. Ravage on the sitting rogues is always nice too when you want big numbers to make your grind seem worthwhile. (Syndicate rogues)

not sure who karma-bombed everyone, but i fixed that.

more to the point, yes, multiple OoC's in combat are indeed full of win. i remember once pulling something like that on a rogue, only i ended with rip instead of FB. he ran off after blinding me at 5% health and vanishing, and popped out of stealth dead about 20 yards off.

i laughed.
