Picking a good UI for a n00b wow playerFollow

#1 Jan 30 2008 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
Ok. . So after reading over the majority of the UI posts here on the Rogue forums, i have seen some good UI's, but im more worried about whether the majority of them r user friendly. . Looking to know which UI would be preferred for someone who just started playing the game!

I would recommend Theophany's latest UI (personally i favored his third but don't use either because i made my own UI =]). His UI is really helpful and all you have to do is read the ReadMe file for any questions.

Honestly, the best way to go is to start putting yours together yourself, piece by piece, so you gain an understanding of how mods work and can trouble shoot problems that may come up later with full UI packages.

Use small mods to start, like Chatmod and OmniCC.

Then move onto things like Pitbull, Cartographer, Nugie's Combo Bar, Fubar, and EEPanels.

There, I pretty much just listed all the mods I use - and my UI is quite sexy.

I like simple. I use Xperl only. For a long time I used energywatch only.

The only thing I want out of a UI is to be able to see my health and energy at a glance, and targets health and mana/rage/energy at a glance, without losing track of my target. (I don't raid, raiders need a ton more info than I do including threat, dps, party info....) Xperl does everything I need.

Eon is right. Pick a mod that you feel you need, and get used to using then. Slowly add more / iterate your way through until you have everything you want.

If you want a very personalized UI, just do what I did. I went to a few major addon sites and browsed for a few hours. Read the descriptions/comments and look at the pictures to see if its something you are interested in and download it, unzip it, put it in your addon directory, and load up the game to test it out.

If you like it, put its name and source in an excel file. Needless to say you will be logging in and out a lot.

I had a plan to run mine on curse or filefront so you guys could download it here. Problem is its still a bit buggy in places :\

Anyway, thats what I would suggest. Hope this helps.

Just don't use xperl, it's an awful addon.

Also, check my sig for my UI.

Just curious. What do you have against Xperl?

Blizzard standard UI is actually kinda nice too, but then again, that's just me I guess.

It's an awful addon.

Little to no configuration, ugly, and all of the people that think their UI is awesome (but it's really ****) use it.

Basically people use it because it's the easiest way to get 3D portraits.

Your UI uses more than one mod for player health/energy, and target bars? Or does pitbull do it all?

I see what you mean by ugly. I dont care for the skin. What I like about it is it gives me the ability to resize the self, party, target, and target's target windows. As far as the 3D portraits go, I turn those off so all I see is class, level, health and mana.

Would you be so kind as to suggest an alternative addon that gives me the same resizability without the skin?

My target bar and party interface is done through Pitbull. It's much, much more customizable than xperl.

The numbers you see in v4 in the center of my screen marking my health as well as energy, target's health/mana and combo points as well as target is Onscreenhealth.

Both from files.wowace.com.
