Frozen shadoweave - advice/socketsFollow

#1 Jan 30 2008 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
I have a frost mage that is slowly inching towards 70 and I'm thinking about farming for my frozen shadoweave set.

Three questions -

1) Is the frozen shadoweave set the way to go when I hit 70..at least until my guild is ready to do some heavy raiding..

2) Should I craft all three pieces or is there a better alternative I can get right away at 70?

3) What are the recommendations for filling the sockets/gems on all three pieces?

Thanks

it depends on what you want to do. if you want to get into raiding I would personally get the spellfire set as fire has better dps than frost. if you are stuck on frost the FSW set is a great set to have. All three pieces would be best to have if you want to stay frost. Again, it depends on what you want to do. If you want to get into raiding you need to be shooting for spellhit cap (164) so start filling up with yellow (+8 spellhit) and oranage (+4 spellhit/+5 spelldmg) gems.

Indeed. The good thing about FSW over spellfire is that when you get a better piece of gear for a slot, the set bonus is pitiful enough so that you don't have to worry about losing it.

Or maybe that's the bad thing. It's something anyway.

Make the set, it works wonders. Frost is fine for raiding. I have not been beyond Gruul's layer, but I can tell you that a well played frost mage does just fine in kara and gruul's.

I will probably switch to fire when my guild makes it to SSC. Tonight is our 3rd attempt ever at gruuls, and first with me tanking krosh =)

Hit isn't as important with 3pts in Elemental Precision, I would say to start raiding Kara you need between 75 and 100. The gear you get in there will bump you to where you need to be. I would socket them with the Potent Noble Topaz and Glowing Nights Eye.

Thanks for the input!!

Anobix - I'm afraid I'm stuck on frost for now. I'll most likely switch when I have to for raiding purposes. And I'm not sure about heavy raiding...my guild is just working up to the point where we have the right mix to start raiding. I completely agree with your socket assessment.

Poldaran - Good point about the set bonus. Or lack thereof set bonus? It's sad because I like to make snowflakes.

compgenius - Yeah. Along the lines with Anobix; looks like I need to start looking at hit rating more carefully. And rearranging my spec-whether it be fire or arcane. Thank you for the socket advice as well.

Thanks again,
Arth

Not at the early raiding gear level(unless already hit capped AND needing a yellow socket bonus). Until you've reached roughly T5 level gear, Runed Living Rubies will give you more power for the socket. Potent Nobles are good gems, but hit rating and spell damage are much more powerful stats than crit until you have enough oomph to make it work. That said, if you have the talent "Spell Power" in addition to your talent school's crit modifier(Ignite/Ice Shards), this is skewed and Potent Nobles become better choices than Runed Livings, but Veiled Nobles remain the better choice.
