I was saving badges for breastplate reward but after recent attempts at gruul and mag i was wondering if investing in the Auto Blocker was actually worth it. will it increase my threat so my dps team can pick it up a bit.

I'm a full a Kara geared tank.
the two trinkets i currently use is Morose's Pocket watch and the trinket off from Slabs (cant remember the name off my head).

just wondering if anyone has experience with the auto blocker and if it will actually increase my threat?
or if not, can someone offer advice on a trinket upgrade from the Slabs one

Thanks

auto lockers use increases your block value, shield slams damage scales with block value so yes, using auto blocker and shield slamming with it up increases threat quite alot

oh i know how it scales, i was just wondering if anyone tried it and noticed a big enough difference to dump the mitigation i loose from the Slabs trinket.

i know the Slabs trinket isnt the greatest, but its what i have at the moment.

it will DEFINITELY increase your threat and should be at the top of every prot warriors list to get once they have the badges for it.

It's definitely a good piece to get, and should be on your list of things to get as a prot tank. No, it will most likely NOT be what makes or breaks your gruul or mags attempts. Regardless, it should be something you get as soon as possible. It's an amazing piece for stacking block value for your heroics set.

If you're trying to compare what would be a larger upgrade, your chest or the blocker, I'm sure we'd be more than happy to help with that as well, but we'd need to know what you're using as your chest piece at the moment to make a comparison.

/agree

imo, the tank neck (brooch of deftness) is a better overall upgrade to tps and a better tanking trinket, as it offers 49 stamina, some hit and some expertise, both of which impact all of your abilities and not just shield slam.

however, if you find that your mitigation and stamina are lacking, i would pick the chest. i'm currently wearing the vindicator's hauberk, and switching to the 75 badge chest would give me another 500 armor and 500 health... but since i already have a decent amount of hp/ac unbuffed (13.5k/14.8k), i'm going for the neck piece first... shield slam/devastate/white hit/hs missing or being parried/dodged really suck.

Thanks for the reply's.

Like Froman i'm using the Vindicator's Hauberk as well.
it's actually my last piece of blue tanking gear (the nightbane chest will NOT drop for me). I got the nightbane shield our very 1st kill though. :P

well, i picked up the trinket last night and to maximize it's potential i created this macro:

#show Gnomeregan Auto-Blocker 600
/use [harm,nodead,equipped:Shields] Gnomeregan Auto-Blocker 600
/stopcasting
/cast [equipped:Shields] Shield Slam
/equip [noequipped:Shields] Shield of Impenetrable Darkness

this macro should allow the following (i think)
- Activate Shield Slam at the exact same time as trinket activation.
- It checks to make sure your target is alive and hostile
- equip a shield if one isnt there (with a double click)

so i should be able to get 4 shield slams off on one use, every two minutes.
I tested it on crap mobs in SMV last night and it seemed to work. tonight we have a gruuls run, i'm MT so i'll be able to really test it.

I also re-enchanted my sword with the Executioner enchant, to see what that does to my TPS. i looked up the mats online and BAM! i had them all in the bank!

thanks

so, what did executioner do to your tps? i plugged in some of my tanking numbers at maxdps.com, and it showed the biggest increase in dps from more strength, though that tool is geared towards fury warrior dps.

i did a bit of googling and saw this post about mongoose vs. executioner from tankingtips.com off of tankspot.com.

personally, i prefer the added crit (more rage) and added agility (more armor and dodge) from mongoose over the armor penetration from executioner... then again, i'm at the point where i NEED the additional rage, mitigation and avoidance.

i grabbed that enchant and got the auto blocker.
the enchant procs often and the auto blocker is just awesome.

so far i've tanked Gruul twice (last week and this week) and did an impromptu Kara clear last Friday night with it. The prince fight, no one said anything and i was approx. in the 1K TPS range, although my eye wasnt on it the meter whole time.

the week before last i had a few warlocks whisper me in the Gruul fight about being threat capped to my threat output (which sparked this post)

My TPS seemed to increase in that fight because i asked those same locks how it was and they said they had no problems. I'm unsure if the auto blocker was the deciding factor or the enchant or a combo of the two but when auto blocker goes off using that macro (which works great) i can get 4 full slams off for 1500 damage each.

Gruul is a tough fight to judge on because i'm getting tossed around with the ground slam, We're doing mag this Thursday so i should have a better idea for it.

anyone know of a mod that will calculate my TPS and give me a report on it?

sort of like webstats...

i've asked that same question before, and i still haven't gotten a real answer... looking at omen is pretty much the best answer i've gotten. i'll google around a bit and see if there is one that can give you a TPS report.

Yeah, Froman, we're going to have to have those TPS reports by Friday, yeah.

Oh, and we're going to need you to come into work on Saturday, and Sunday too yeah.

That would be sweet Froman.
i stare at Omen as much as i can, (its actually got me in trouble sometimes as well :P) but having a mod that would record my average TPS per fight, something i can look at after a battle as a report... well that would just be the Shizzy!!!

oh, and your not taking my RED STAPLER!

I just found two mods that seem really interesting

"MyTPS"
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/9598/

"ThreatU"
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/10348/

I only glanced though them quickly, but they seem to do what we are both after.
i'll try them out tonight.
