Disc/?? PvE LevelingFollow

#1 Jan 30 2008 at 6:36 AM Rating: Decent
So I've been leveling a shadow priest for the past couple of weeks... I just recently hit 30. I have been noticing, however, that my playing style would really love the Discipline tree and I don't like being the same as, you know, 90% of pre-70 priests. Could anybody give me some advice on what talents in the Discipline tree are important and which other tree I might take to augment my skills? PW:Shield has been my favorite spell ever so far. Along with wands and the like.

Or should I be waiting to hit 40 to really get a feel for whether I want to switch or not? Even if this is the case, I'd still love to hear any arguments for my first question.

I went deep enough into shadow to get mindflay and only enough in holy to max out improved renew. Everything else has gone into the disc tree and I've leveled just fine Pre-BC instances I healed just fine. Post BC ones have been a little tricky but I think it's been mostly a combo of crappy gear and pugs. Here's my current build at level 68 http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Detheroc&n=Olivis I'll stick with this as long as I can until most of my soloing is done. Even then a respec will most likely involve moving my shadow points to holy.

Very interesting. Your build is practically how I envisioned my own as I went through a calculator myself--probably a little less in shadow (Spirit Tap and Improved SW:P) and a little more in holy (get to Divine Fury). Could you go a little bit into HOW you play your character? As in casting sequences, what you cast in what situation? I would appreciate it!

I'm curious to know why you passed PI, one of the best Disc talents. Same with Divine Fury, it would be your best damage booster. It's a direct 20% damage boost to your Smite. It's hard to pass that one for any Disc/Holy spec.

Well, in my opinion, you won't be 100% sure of how you do with your talents until you reach lvl 70. I did grow up into discipline, and when you reach lvl 70, you're pretty much mocked when asked for your talents, even if you like them.

People seek full dps shadow priests or born-to-heal priests. If you choose otherwise, it gets harder to prove you're not an abnormal creation of some distorted divinity.

Revelador.

I have PI now(hit 69 last night). I didn't bother with it up to this point because I wasn't having any problems soloing and dpsing wasn't what I was doing in groups. Casting sequence is usually PW:S - mindblast or holy fire - SW:P - mindflay - mindflay. About 1/2 way through the 2nd mindflay the mob is hitting me. If it's at 50% health, I'll wand it death. If it's above 50% I'll throw in another mindblast or mindflay depending on how much health the mob has or how much mana I have and then wand to death. It's been a pretty effictive strategy so far. Healing 5 man dungeons has been tricky but not impossible. Getting Prayer of Mending has made it a lot easier though. I guess what I have is a versitility spec. I can't dps like shadow or heal like holy but I can do enough of both to not be useless. At any rate, I'm having fun with my spec but I do get some odd looks. However, no one ******* when you offer to heal.
