I had been using the umm, Omen one I think it was. YOu could cycle thru various pages listing damage, dps, healing, overhealing, etc etc. The problem with it seemed my damage reports to the party would always vary (sometimes quite a bit) from say a mages or warlocks, who of course did not have my pet included.
I was never overly concerned with it, as my dps is usually right up there, but the other day another hunter I was grouped with suggesed using a meter called "recount" (from curse.com), which records all your attacks (and other group members), giving quite a detailed account of everything.
I haven't had much of a chance to experiment with it yet, having only downloaded it last nite, but it appears to be quite usefull.

Just though I'd share.

Omen is a threat meter.

Get Recount, it syncs and is very user friendly.
#3REDACTED, Posted: Jan 29 2008 at 10:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) First of all, wrong forum, and second, Omen is a THREAT meter, which means that it measures the THREAT that you and your party members generate. Recount is a DAMAGE meter which means that it measures DAMAGE (and healing), and honestly, when you downloaded Omen from Curse, how could you not see that it was called Omen THREAT Meter?

Miscommunication..yes i know OMEN is a threat meter, the damage meter I was running I thought was part of Omen. And that was sort of the point of this thread, was about switching to Recount.

Recount is very good, and very user friendly. You can set it up to record pet damage seperately, or merged with hunter/lock/mage etc.

We have 2 guys that run with us that use different meters than Recount, but they don't report DPS - just total damage. But we find that our numbers are usually the same. If someone is reporting VAST differences in damage... especially reports that put them higher on the chart, they either have a smaller recording radius (Recount defaults at 200 yards. Some may only record within 10 yards), or they failed to reset the meter before the run. A guildie even ditched one of his meters (don't know which one) because it was recording lock's drain life as healing - and not factoring it into damage.

Recount can also report single fight stats. It keeps those single fight stats for 5 fights. This way, you don't have to reset before a boss fight if you want to see that fight alone.

Either way, there's no 100% accurate meter, and they only paint a picture, They shouldn't be used for trashing players (as long as you're killing the bosses just fine, it really doesn't matter). But if you're having trouble, and feel you don't have enough DPS, they can help your raid see where you might be lacking.

Also, keep in mind that certain fights make accurate measures of DPS difficult, and/or make certain classes really rock the charts. A lock on Illhoof, for example, will register incredible amounts of damage, but will never come close to that on other fights.

And also, some bosses should not be used for testing your "MAD DPS ON TEH METERZ" due to them needing CC and stuff, (Moroes, Crone and such) since when kiting/trapping/schackling whatever you are not doing damage :)

guild uses WWS, so i couldnt care less about having a dps meter myself.

Although i have to admit that i got a big grin on my face when i saw myself at nr 3 in the dps meters on our Void Reaver kill.
Just behind a fully epicced out lock and rogue and ahead of the rest.
And most of them geared better then me.

Most guilds that I have seen recently are using Omen over KTM, and I myself had seen discrepancies between a tank using Omen when I was using KTM (I switched over now). Also, can someone explain to me why I was sub-defaulted? Utarius and Steelray explained that Recount is user friendly, and it syncs well, and I just explained how Omen would not track damage, only threat.

If you do want another damage meter, try using SW Stats, I used it before I started using Recount.

Yuppley:

I think you were Sub-D'd because your post was a tad bit agressive over a minor mistake by the OP. I generally don't karma rate down so I left it alone, but I was going to make a comment to the OP to take your response with a grain of salt. I didn't think you meant to come off that strong, but I could see where others might down rate you for it, thus the Sub-D.

I think I'm going to look into Recount myself. I used to use the CT damage meter but it seemed so out of whack. I need to look at all my add-ons and clean them up... whadda mess.

You got Sub-D'd because there's just too many softarsed cUnts on these boards. Would have gotten ya up to at least default though, if you hadn't talked about it. That's an automatic red arrow. Karma is somewhat like Fight Club. If it is your own, you don't talk about it.

No its not, it sucks.
Omen does everything better then KTM.
It uses less resources, is more accurate, has more options, looks better, has a nifty warning when you reach a certain threat lvl and it gets updated. Unlike KTM.
