So, after PvPing for awhile now, i recently respecced fury, after seeing an old guildie of mine topping damage charts in ssc and tk. So, later that day, i was looking to pug a kara group. And this shadow priest on my server that's on the 2nd best guild on our server, and has like illidan on farm lol, told me that fury warriors suck at early lvls, and that they can't even get in the top 3. That really pissed me off lol, so i got into a kara with someone that i lvld with. We got to the chess event, and i topped the damage chart. I was just wondering, was this just a fluke? or is that shadow priest from the 2nd best guild just messing with me?

Warriors are VERY gear dependant and need good gear to put out good DPS. As far as PvE goes, i suggest a fury build. So, yes, it was a fluke, but also some truth in it.

Allright, and i forgot to add that i had a enh shaman in my group, but so did the rogue that was right behind me.

TBH, Fury warriors don't really shine til later in the game. Some do well in Kara, but I think its because the casters are gimping themselves with their pvp specs and crap rotations. I'm not saying its a fluke, but depending on who you raid with...it can go either way. For instance.

I raid in a guild who has two 25 man groups, one in Hyjal and BT, and one in SSC/TK. I have a few pieces of Hyjal gear (shoulders, neck & bracers) and the rest is from SSC/TK (minus t4 chest piece and gloves from gruul). When I raid with BG2 (SSC/TK'ers) I top the charts in every aspect and we're rogue heavy. Now when I raid with BG1 I hover in the middle, but on melee friendly fights I'm in the top 3, but more often then not I'm in the middle with the other melee (and we run with Enh shaman too).

So it really just depends on who you raid with. I was toppin charts in Gruul's, Mag, VR and some SSC bosses, then I moved up with the better geared raiders and I was still doing well, but not as good as I wanted to. But it was due to the lack of gear and basically going straight from a few SSC/TK clears straight to MH and BT. I've been getting gear and I always try to improve.

Take what the Spriest told you and use it to your advantage and do what you gotta do. Just remember, being a fury warrior isn't all about topping the dmg meters, although it's nice to see, we play other roles as well. Stopping heals, OT'ing if possible, using certain debuffs (Demo Shout) stuff like that. You'll find out that there are certain fights (after you get outta Kara) that are not very melee friendly and you'll struggle to do more DMG than the MT. Just do your research, learn your class and what kind of gear you need and go from there. Just don't expect to be numero uno over night..it won't happen.

The reason that i have run into, for guilds not taking fury warriors, is that they expect them to be tanks....rather annoying.

You know, I was a tank for the longest time until I found the guild I am in now. When I joined the guild they didn't have S2 gear out yet and I wasn't too big into the Arena scene (for weps). When I joined LoTH I had completely crappy gear (HWL Shoulders, Aldor rep sword, Epic Dagger from H ramps) stuff like that.

My Guild Leader said he wasn't a fan of Fury warriors but said he'd give me a chance. He did, but I still didn't have the gear to meet the DPS requirements he wanted to raid with BG1. So I ran kara for T4, I did gruul's and we did Joint Raid Mag's. I soon did Arena's got the weapons and got gear and saw my dps increase.

After he saw me making attempts to get geared and learn more about fury warriors and soon made progress amongst the ranks and now I raid with the main raiders. Most guilds don't know that fury warriors rawk and stereotype warriors as tanks...just prove them wrong.

There's nothing wrong with Guild 5mans...its actually better. Also..there's nothing wrong with being a Tank and snaggin DPS gear along the way.

Fury warriors had and have their place in raids. They toped DPS charts before TBC and they are up there now as well.
Guild Master who is reluctant to take "not tank" warrior is - lets say it nice way - not well informed.
Aditionally Arms warriors (Hybrid exactly) have now their place in raids as well and if played well (they are harder to play well) they can earn their permanent spot in raids as well.

OP- The reason that your s.priest friend told you wars suck at the early lvs is because war is a very gear dependent class, if not THE most gear dependent class. As far as topping damage meters, that all depends how well you are geared in comparison to the rest of the group. I also easily top the damage meters on 5 mans with equally geared people, but that's also because we have whirlwind, sweeping strikes cleave, which do a number to trash if the tank is any good.

Like Pigeon said, being a dps warrior has a lot more to do with bringing some versatility to the raid as well as decent damage output. I don't know too many guilds who would take a purely DPS warrior into kara unless very well geared, were mostly there for support and to off tank. Improved BS is nothing to sneezed at, specially in melee heavy groups, as well as improved DS, if you are asked.

If you want a raid spot, I highly recommend that you have a decent tanking set that will allow you to off tank. Then collect your DPS gear. For example, last weeks Kara, I put out about 700k damage during the raid(dedicated dps did 1-1.3mil) Thats not bad considering you're also bringing into the table the ability to off tank, and not to mention my gear is nowhere where I'd like it to be.
