Hi guys,
I'am a fully spec'd frost mage and after doing the bg's for the past week I've noticed a lot of other frost mages seem to cast a lot quicker than me.
I have frostbolt maxed out to 5 in talent points for speed so not sure how the others are quicker to cast.
I've seen haste potions, haste making casting quicker I think I read somewhere, but they only last 15 seconds at a time so I'am thinking if that was it you'd need a lot for AV.
Secondly is movement speed, again I seem slower on foot.
I have my boots enchanted with boars speed but its only fractionally noticable to be quicker and I got it mainly for the stam. increase than anything else.
But I've had other frost mages run around me blasting away until I can take no more.
Again the cast times seem to be less than mine as well to allow this.
I appreciate the closer I'am to a target that it will reduce cast times but geez I've seen some pretty fast frost mages out there.
I'am usually a pve player so these issues havent been a problem in the past but now I'am after a few bg items I have played a lot more pvp but seem to be lacking in the speed department.
Is there a potion/elixer/flask that I can use that I dont know about?
Lastly maybe a good pvp macro for a better sequence of damage might help, anyone have any links that may help?
Thanks for any help :)

Spell haste may be partially to blame. Lag and queueing up spells before the last one has cast on your screen may be another part. Icy Veins may be the final filler in there, depending on level.

Icy Veins is awesome.

Lag and lack of keybindings, and keyboard turning I would suspect play a large part in this.

Toons and gear being equal, then computer specs, internet speed, and good old skill and experience are all thats left. If you are new to PvP you may get totally owned for a while against truly experienced players, even if your connection is better. " Good against remotes is one thing, but good against the living?" I am primarily a PvE player, not really good at PvP at all.If you have ever played first person shooter PC games and were able to perform well against other good players then you can learn to PvP in WOW. I will always be a mediocre PvP player because I am a one finger, hunt and peck typer. It really doesn't matter what gear I have or that my cable connection stays in the 25-40 lag range.

If your performance is determined purely by factors outside your control (such as a really lousy connection as the only one available)then just do the best you can with what you have.

Are they blasting you with a lower rank frost bolt, which has a lower cast time than max rank, perhaps?

haste rating on items (a lot of it heroic badge gear), haste rating from pots and buffs, icy veins and lower rank spells were all mentioned.

another possibility is an MSD proc, although an internal cooldown was added in a recent patch which was quite a nerf.

3 I can think of off the top of my head. One is a random proc, one is a proc based on crits(50% chance, iirc), and one is a use.

Thanks guys, a lot of really good ideas in there.
Connection speed isnt an issue, my ability as a pvp player is probaly a factor, but the lower rank frost bolt idea was a good one.
I use the highest rank frost bolt, more damage but I'am guessing also more cast time.
I found some good macro's so will try them out today and see if it makes a difference.
I've nearly got everything I want in bg's anyway, was just amazed at how other 70 frost mages were so much quicker than me.
Then back to good old pve :)

Lower rank frostbolts is not the answer - I can tell you so much without even having played against any of your opponenets. The only time a mage will be downgrading will be to kite, and kiting another mage is not effective ;) It's probably that you aren't used to PvP where keybindings, and mouse turning is the single most important factors.

I have recently noticed, that do to inherent latency, you can start the next cast as much as half a second before the first one is finished. I don't care how good your connection is, there will always be a delay that can be taken advantage of.

They may also have Quartz add on. If you already have it, disreguard this, but i got it about 3 weeks ago and being able to make a macro that:

/stopcasting
/cast frostbolt

makes it so you can immediatly chain cast spells. If you were talking about chain casting spells, that may be one thing...if single spells then it seems everyone else has covered it.

this is not required anymore. blizzard has changed the client/server synchronisation so that this is automatically done.
use quartz or a similar addon to display lag, then just start casting the next frostbolt within the red lag bar at the end of your casting bar and they will come out faster.

With respect to the non-need for using /stopcasting, does this also apply to other spells? For example, if a melee character gets close to me when I'm in the middle of a cast, I want the FN to happen instantly, and interrupt the cast.

Don't use stopcasting, the built in spell queue is much better. The single exception is extremely important spells that you don't care if your previous spell is lost, such as Nova and CS, where you hit the stopcasting macro to stop the spell early and lose the cast. Else, just stick with the spell queue.
