Heya guys.
I have a 64 druid now and would like a secondary character, to get a feel for and master. I want a solid dps class, as I love dpsing in instances, tanking can be really fun but hell i feel the pressure when you make a mistake and i think its the most 'judged' role in any group. I DONT like Healing, and luckily feral specs are terrble at this at higher levels.
So i want something which is a good dps class, and will be quite useful in end game (havent been there).

I also love to pvp and want to hold my own. But i dont want a pwnzoropclasspewpewtothemax, hell i want a class which NEEDS skill which is most classes sometimes, and a challenge.
I have a shaman at level 10 now and hunter at level 8, these are just my main thoughts but want people to give me tips on a alt.
Thanks alot. Man arent Druids like the......BEST!

Heya. I recently went Horde (After 2 years with alliance) and rolled a Druid. And so far I love it!

I have a SPriest at level 70 which is good fun, but the toon I miss most is my 63 Rogue. I think that may be a good alt for you. They are super at PvP, Useful in end game, (CC - DPS) and to be great at one, unless you are going Stun-Lock-Mace they do need skill, especially against Plate/Mail class's.

Another idea would be Warrior. Yes, you may be asked to Tank Pre-TBC instances, but at higher levels, they can kick a punch. At lvl 70, even a full S1 Warrior can tear through players. Though they do rely on a healer.

So you, I would suggest either a Rogue or Warrior. Though its still your choice. Have fun WoW-ing!

Well, I'm going to guess from your name that you're feral. I'd probably suggest something different for an alt, so either a ranged DPS (mage/lock/shadow priest/hunter) or a healer.

But that's just me, and I like variety, what with my prot pally, balance druid, and enhancement shaman. Of course...I've also got a feral druid that I'm leveling now. I just like the class, darn it!

I found shaman to be quite fun for an alt, and like it better than my druid now xD.

Yeah, I have a Shaman (Level 48). Gave him up though. They have NO CC. Also no "Charge" skill. As a result, as Enhancement, they can be easily Kited, and as Elemental, they can't kite. My friend has a lvl 70 one. He only uses it for PvE. He hates PvPing with it. The only viable option is to go Healing, which Kest does not want.

Speaking for myself, the alts that feel (to me, for what I do) too similar to my feral druid are the ones who never get played. I pull out my rogue or my shaman and I end up feeling like anything they could do, I could do better with my druid.

My favorite alt is my fire mage. Almost the polar opposite playstyle to how I play my druid, which lets me look at things in a whole new way. And needless to say the DPS is good. :)

I concur with teacake. The alts that I most like are my hunter and my mage. A shadow priest would be nice too, but if you don't like healing, don't go for a priest, since untill later on your job at instances will be mainly healing.
Or even a Lock. They are great at PvP, their leveling is really easy mode, they do great as an DPSer in a group and can quite hold their on single.
It's up to you.

OMG cross your fingers that noone from the Lock Class Forum read that. Locks are easy to level! Tsh! Are you mad!

I'd say that any class that you feel right playing. Just read up on all the different classes and choose one that fits your style. You wanna be a bully go warrior. Wanna be a kiter go with a hunter.

Wanna pwn face roll a lock (which aren't as easy to level as most think :) but they are easy at times if you get your shadow damage to a great ammount like I have)

I think teacake and I are twin souls or something because once again it's ditto for me on EVERY single count, right down to the spec of my baby fuego mage-o.

As a feral druid at heart the playstyle of being a glass cannon with cc took me a LONG time to get into, but I ended up sticking with him because all my melee alts felt like gimped druids and hunter/warlock felt like ez mode with the pet. Once my mage hit around 20 he had enough toys that I started liking to play him for the challenge and contrast...you really have to think about how to combine your crowd control, kiting, and damage output. I haven't really enjoyed the few instances I ran because casting DPS seemed so much easier than tanking, (stand in back, sheep, spam fireballs, resheep, stay under tank threat, voila!) but I'm hoping that's because the early instances are less mentally demanding on dps/cc. : /

I also have a 35 warrior that is OK but that's mostly because it's nice to see weapons fly. I'll probably stick him at the 39 bg bracket.

Must be that "What Would JeeBar Do?" sticky I keep on my monitor.

I don't doubt everyone else's stories about great druid DPS at all, but thanks to the hybrid set of gear I run around in, mine really isn't that great. And with the amount of our damage that comes from bleeds, I just don't see big happy crit numbers on my druid. My mage is only level 30 but already my family is beginning to worry about the insane cackle I let out every time I get a crit and get to watch the thing run around on fire.

OTOH I've never given a moment's thought to meaningless phrases like "kiting" or "crowd control" with my druid. I control mobs by killing them.

This is exactly why I'm such a fan of alts. I think learning to play a different way makes you better.

Are you serious? Druid, hunter and lock, IMHO, are easy mode leveling.
All you have to do as a lock is DoT and kite. All you have to do as a hunter is send pet and stay away. All you have to do as druid is stealth, kill and heal yuorself.
Of course there are exceptions for those situations, but mostly, their leveling are just like that.

This is why I am leveling alts. My priest will make 4 70's in 2 levels and the others are well under way. It is amazing how different each of the playstyles is! Even the mage & priest are totally different. The mage is all about not letting the mob hit you at all. The priest is all about standing there and tanking the mob while you kill it. PW:Shield is fantastic at lower levels and at higher levels, I rarely use it as Vampiric Embrace keeps my health pretty well topped up even with mobs (non-elites) wailing on me. The shield is for elites & multiple mobs and then you still have your fear as an emergency button.

I have a 48 Druid as my main and lately I just can't deal with leveling it so I've been mainly PvPing but will return to leveling soon. However, I did create an UD age alt and so far am only at level 10 but love it already. I can't wait to get Blizzard and AoE grind in Hillsbrad and such. Very different play style and a refreshing change of pace.

It seems some of these people seemed to miss some of the important points of kest's post, such as...

"I want a solid dps class...tanking can be really fun but hell i feel the pressure...I DONT like Healing...good dps class, and wll be quite useful...I also love to pvp...i want a class which NEEDS skill...and a challenge."

Well, I'll break it down:
If you want to avoid healing at all costs, dont make a priest, shaman, or paladin. Most shamans and paladins end-game are heal-spec, and priests (which there seems to be a fair amount of shadow priests) are usually only wanted as healers. Some people see the benefits of other specs, but most people just want a healer. A shadow priest MAY be for you if you're fine with all the "HEAL!" spam.

If you're okay with tanking sometimes warrior could be fun. I love mine in PvP, and they DO make the best tanks (sorry druids, you're close though). Even so, I'm trying to get any of my guildies to switch to arms, to provide all those amazing debuffs.

Really, I'd say you'd be left with a choice between lock, hunter, mage, and rogue. Rogues can be fun, but unless things have changed they dont bring much to arenas, and all they really bring to end-game is kick.
A hunter will bring a challenge when you learn how to kite, with the removal of the deadzone have become very deadly in PvP, but are quite easy to level. However, the art of CCing on a hunter is one that is hard to learn, and you'll love it.
Locks bring incredible DPS, while also offering a variety of pets. Honestly, of the two "pet" classes, I think this is for you. Rather than virtually doing the same thing over and over, you can treat different encounters with different curses, pets, and even styles of gameplay.
What I think you'll love most though is a frost mage. I particularly say frost, because they are crazy at grinding. You'll need skill, but when you can down several mobs at once (circa faxmonkey) you'll love it!

OP - I think your answer is Warlock or Hunter. Both are definitely EZ levelers and fairly straight-forward to be good at, but to be great requires another level of effort. Locks at least come with so many abilities that just knowing which one to use when can be a challenge in itself, particularly in PvP.

edit: Mages are incredibly challenging in PvP, but dps'ing with them is seriously a brain-dead activity. Until you're tanking Krosh or assigned solo-duty on the adds in Black Morass, there's really not much to it. Especially if you're frost.
