Ok, This is not a debate, this is not a question – Instead, this is just my opinion on what I’ve done and what I’ve experienced.
I have leveled from 1 to 47 as a fire mage. The whole time I heard the legends of the AOE grind mage. I switched – I’ll admit – “Come on, everyone’s doing it, it feels good, just give it a tryâ€â€¦ I tried.
I mean the only reason I’m fire anyway is because it did more damage on day 1 – so I stuck with it and didn’t give frost a try… So let’s try it out. Let’s try to be Frosty. They just re-spec’d it RIGHT?
I didn’t like it. It felt wrong, it felt dirty. Combustion was gone, I would Crit sometimes, I had no DoT, I lacked range, I got this barrier thing that lasted like 500hp…. I liked it, but spamming Bolts wasn’t too cool. Did I give it a shot – Well, I guess…. I did 47 to 51. I tried the PVP. I AE’d some guy to death – it was awesome – He realized that I’d absorbed all his crits, he stood there…. I pressed ‘7’ (that’s my hotkey for Arcane Explosion) eventually he made a noise and fell over………
As for PVP – if I get jumped/ambushed – I’m 5-out-of-10 times screwed. The Mage, Rouge, Lock, Druid has already killed me by the time I get my Ice up, then, if I do get it up – he’s got a few seconds to figure out how he wants to finish me… Yeah – you guys who are ‘ubber’ PVP will find this stupid, but honestly in a FAIR (aka we both see each other) I’m about 50/50 (Depending on Class) and in a fight where jump/ambush them I’m like 90% kill. So – my thinking is that if I get jumped – I run back… If I jump or see it’s MUCH better than FAIR for me.
So I switched back to fire. I have heard of frost mages that are ubber good, but either I need one in my guild to train me, or I need advice here. I died fighting 2 dark iron dwarves…. I would have destroyed as fire.
I know Frost isn’t bad – it must be me…
Oh well, I have the warming effect of combustion to keep me feeling good.
