Ive gone 30 levels and have pretty much given up soul stoning myself. I can never resurrect myself. I was under the impression we could. If we can, care to give me a straight forward explaination?

you create the soulstone. target yourself, use the soulstone. and then for the next 30minutes, if you die you can res where you died instantly. they do work

p.s. actually read what it does:

"Use: Stores the friendly target's soul. If the target dies while his soul is stored, he will be able to resurrect with 2900 health and 3300 mana."

Soul Stoning can be a bit tricky for the first-time user.

Step 1: Create a Soul Stone.

Step 2: Target the person you wish to protect (if solo, yourself; if in a party, typically the healer, so they can rez everyone in case of a wipe)

Step 3: While targeting the intended recipient, use the Soul Stone item.

Step 4: Profit!

If you do it right, the target will get the "Soul Stone" buff (or something like that, I'm not sure of the buff's exact name). It will last for 30 minutes or until used.

I still smack my forehead every time I ask a soloing/grinding warlock with no soulstone on: "Hey! why dont you have the SS buff on?" and they respond "Because it wastes shards, and im not in a group n00b".

So... If you can re-apply it every 30 minutes and you are grinding and know that in at least 30 minutes you wont go to an instance... why the hell not SS yourself?

I never liked soulstoning myself because it used my timer and I was never sure when i would go to a pug instance. Nothing irritated me more than doing an instance, asking the warlock to SS the healer and they just go "sorry I used it on myself." If I never did many instances, sure I'd use it on myself, but I got fairly good at world pvp and rarely died; I also rarely pulled things I couldn't kill, so it would have been a waste.

Unless inmediately after you start grinding you get a PuG, you wont have problems with that, unless you tend to wipe in the first 10-15 minutes of an instance, in wich case its not a long run/has no respawns/group probably sucks anyway.

I never use a soulstone on myself. Why? because I very seldom die. I save my soulstone for instances, or for lower levels that are in a duo/trio group with me.

Same here. And if I do die, it is in the kind of situation that no SS would save me. Rezzing among 4-5 mobs that just killed me would gain me nothing but corpse run.
I dont think I SSed myself 2 times since I first got the spell and it was just for novelty to try it.

I wouldnt remember to SS myself now even if it was of any use really. Just never got used to it.
Besides I dont do much but Heroics and raids on my lock anymore and if I go farm shards I would have to go afk to get killed by level 64-5... sac VW ftw :)

I have hunter for farming, dailies, anything I need for making money. Wish I could SS her sometimes tho.

if I was on a pvp server I would probably have the ss on most of the time, but on a pve it's not necessary. Only time I use it is if I'm about to do something i probably shouldn't.

I always keep one made, but don't use it on myself unless I just missed the elevator from Aldor Rise...then SS and jump. Also, sometimes I'll SS and then fly straight up then dismount. Thats fun to do in the middle of a group.

I used to keep one on me all the time until about 50 and up. No real reason, I just kind of forgot about using it, unless in instances.
If I know the run back to my body will be far in whatever zone I'm in, then sometimes I remember to have it.

But most of the time, farming at 70, if I do die, its because I'm absolutely surrounded by mobs, and I'm going to die either way, whether I have a SS or have to run back.

The only way from the scryer inn to their bank is directly up, followed by a fast descent ideally landing directly in the doorway. Finding the perfect comedy timing for resurrection is one of the less well known warlock skills.

Strange to read so many people dont SS themselves. I rarely die (demo) but it does happen and I usually can sense a wipe coming right off the bat. I will always run/walk stunned to a place that i feel i wont re agro 4-5 mobs when I rez. Also the addon Necrosis lets you cast a soulstone and when you hit it again it casts on you if no PCs are targeted by default. PUGs usually end up bad and if someone has to wait a few minites until mine drops then so be it.

I dont get this. Are you saying you SS yourself in groups?
Even if I had to run bad PuG I would rather SS priest or pally that can rez the whole group.

I think he was just saying that if he was SS at the begining, and it wasn't up yet, they have to wait a few minutes for it to drop so he can put it on them.

At least I hope that's what he's saying.

I almost always SS myself when I'm out doing stuff, and always SS the healer in the group.

I don't really see why anyone wouldn't, the fact that it costs a shard? You can just make another one on the next thing you kill. If you have a large soul bag then who really cares anyway. I mean yeah, before we get Soul Well you can use them up pretty quick if you gotta supply a group with HS, but still, you can just make more, unless your doing something way below your level.

I used to SS myself, now I don't bother anymore either. Only use them on the healer in groups nowdays. Although in a raid on Halaa, I'll put one up.

I used to SS myself all the time, but I forget I even have it sometimes as I mostly PVP nowadays. I still use it when I try something stupid or crazy, like trying to solo various elites or something. And of course a SS always, always gets on the healer in instances I run.

SS'ing yourself in BG's can give those nooby, arrogant enemies a nasty suprise if you come back from the dead and kill them before they know what happened ;) Some people just aren't used to seeing a 'real, live' ressurection miracle ;P

Against Locks and Shammys, I always watch for the red name above their corpse to disappear, indicating a release. If they haven't, I just assume they are going to SS/Ankh (primarily in world PvP).

On my Warlock, I always rolled with my wife who is a Shadow Priest. She was always SS'd, so not having it up on myself is the norm for me.

The few times I have used SS I usaully died about 32 minutes after I applied it and had forgotten to reapply it.
