Swords at 70 - suggestions and comparisons Follow

While trying to plan ahead for 70 (currently 64) and realizing that I could drop mining when I get engineering to 375: I thought why not mine my *** off, store up some mats and power level blacksmithing (swordsmithing) and make myself something nice.

I don't really mind grinding pve for mats or money and there seems to be some great crafted pieces--but thought I would ask around first. Below are links to the two swords I was comparing when I thought of switching.

Anyone have experience with this kinda thing? Did I miss a thread somewhere that answers every question I could possibly ask? Would I be a fool for wasting time that could be spent grinding rep? Or am I just a fool?

The Sun Eater is a tanking sword. You'd probably be better served with a Latro's Shifting Sword for your offhand, especially considering the low drop rate on the Sun Eater.

You should also start doing Arenas at 70, even if you only do 10 a week. Once you have enough points saved up, you can get the Season 2 swords, which are similar or better than everything before 25-man raids, including the blacksmithing swords.

In addition to your Arena games, you can also grind battlegrounds for honor and badges to purchase the Season 1 swords. They should be fairly quick to obtain, and they're equivalent to Kara level drops.

Thanks very much! I had completely forgotten about the season 1 swords. Must have too much sawdust in my skull.

I'd imagine the s1 swords would be decent, if not great, for arena work. But with the focus on Stam (rather than Agil) wouldn't the arena swords be slightly less than ideal for raiding?

And as for the Sun Eater being a tanking sword: There have been more than a few pugs (in guild and not) where I wish I had an off-hand with those stats... Not everyone graduates top of the class, tanks included. Ever shown up at the meeting stone, asked "who's the tank" and get only the response "uhhh... you are!"?

Thanks again,

s1 swords are good dps and wont cost u any gold... so you can keep mining and use that money for your epic mount.

AoE ftl...

Yea, they have Stamina on them, but they also have 91DPS. You aren't going to find something that compares to that for a while in raiding.

Regarding the Blazefury, you'll need to spend some serious time in SSC/TK before you collect all the nether vortexes to craft that.

Thanks for the responses, after reading the thread and looking some specific stuff up, it seems remarkably foolish to go swordsmith with so many rep reward and honor grind-available purples out there. I'm already halfway to the Aldor sword and my guild is very active with raiding, so I think I'll be going with rep and drops.

Well, at least until the expansion comes out and effectively nerfs all our gear.

And as for the stam on the Season 1 swords: For the ease of availability (especially if you grind honor while leveling at the 9's) they look pretty damn good stat-wise even lacking +agility. I've inspected a lot of 70 rogues with them on my server and anything that popular can't be bad.

Thanks again for helping me learn to suck slightly less. Happy hunting,
