Yea, it's been a few years though.

I won a school tournament when I was younger. :P

I haven't played seriously in well over 10 years however. I play with my friends from time to time when we're really bored, sadly I pretty much beat them with ease. I'm not as good as I used to be, but I'm still better then them. :P

I find it's hard to get a good opponent - either they're casual players who it's too easy to beat, or there's hard core chess freaks with frightening minds and tournament rankings who wouldnt waste their time playing me.

I do wish more people were encouraged to play at school - it's a good tool for developing thinking skills. Someone referred to it in AV chat the other day and was roundly derided from all sides - but if more of them played, they might have the wit to win one now and again, rather than riding around complaining that Blizzard/horde don't gift them a win.

Chess is one of the only board-games I really like to play. Was my schools best chess player both in primary and in highschool, so I ended up playing with my teachers and my older sisters boyfriend (who was on the national chess team for a short period of time). My vote is for chess instead of music or arts on the schedule :)

My interest in chess waned as I haven't had anyone to play against for a long time.

Used to be a huge fan of the chessmaster games, and I was always reading the replays of chess games in the paper every sunday, then recreating the game on chessmaster so I could learn some tricks from the pros.

Probably not any good at it anymore.

I was captain of my high school's chess team. No joke.

Of course I went to public school in the south so... it was like playing retarded monkeys at chess.

nice to see some fellow chess players... chessclub.com is a great place to get a game against someone of your playing strength. i learned to play a very long time ago and i almost broke 2000 uscf rating a few years back. if any of you guys wanna get a game sometime lemme know... i'm a shadow of my former self but i can still put up a decent fight.

if only WoW could achieve the PVP balance that chess has.

That's why WoW has been out for three years and will only be here for another ~4 whereas chess has been around since 1450.

i remember back in the old days

rooks just grabbed a skilherald and ruined a queens **** when they had a knight healer, and bishops could bring kings from 100-0 in 1 checkmate

sigh, now if only they buffs pawns, then we could see some new tactics... maybe some kind of ability where they can start off moving two spaces instead of one... i wonder what that would do..

anywho lol, ya i used to play... im much better at chess then go, still decent i believe, but i havent played in forever

I like pawns. Good for sacrificing, like gnomes.

Seriously though, the pawn is the only piece that can get your queen back, if you lose her.

I played chess, I stopped competing when I went to college at age 20 (yeah that was 10 years ago). My rating was 1620, and shooting up when I quit (I had just upset two class A players in my final tournament). I like to think I would have hit expert in a year or so. Nice thing about quitting is I can believe that without having to back it up....

Now to more important questions. What are your favorite openings?

White: 1. e4 ... 2. Nc3 no matter what they play.
Black: 1. e4 center counter defense
1. d4 Grunfeld defense

I still play Blitz on ICC, cant get my rating over 1700.

I own a WoW chess set. It has some little inaccuracies, like Goblins on the Horde side. There's a little Sylvanas model for the Queen. Interestingly, the Alliance Queen is...a paladin. :D

I always sucked at chess. I much preferred checkers - less forethought involved.

So that's why paladins think they're so valuable!
