Boomkin at 50?Follow

#1 Jan 28 2008 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
Basically i plan on going boomkin at level 50 for treants and pimp'in form. A fellow guildie of mine who claims to have a 70 druid on another server says boomkin sucks until level 70 with some of the best possible gear then its acceptable.

Now i still plan on going boomkin at 50 i would just like some input on if thats a bad idea? Will my dps go way down? I dont care too much about being the top i just want to have fun. And was just a little curious as to if this was true or not. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

First, the fact that you point out that this guildy "claims" to have a 70 druid on another server tells me you don't entirely trust them anyway.

Second, even IF he's right (which he isn't) an occasional respec is cheap and since you play the game to have fun (and you should be even IF you care about topping damage meters) you should satisfy your curiosity with a respec. See how you like the playstyle and damage output, then tell him to bugger off if you do and dedicate yourself to gearing up for max effectiveness over time. If I was as curious about it as you seem to be I'd get my Moonkin on at 40, though, what the hell, sooner the better.

Edit: By the way, if you're cheap or have some other reason to not respec (guild obligations or whatnot) just copy your toon to the Public Test Realm and respec Balance there. Or you can use a pre-made toon to see what life is like at level 70 with fully top-end epic gear, that's fun too. : )

Wow,great job. Was jut going to ask the exact same question when i saw this thread.

I have another question though, ive never done healing before and it looks to me like a great deal of fun.

At what level can a druid respec for either all resto or resto/balance and still be able to level fairly quickly, or is that something that should be done only at high lvls?

I'm currently only level 32 but i am very curious about when exactly a druid can come into their own and not just be the typically speced feral druid.

At any level. I leveled as Balance 1-70 and enjoyed every moment. Leveling as Resto would be fine too, just expect it being a bit harder to go solo. Groups will love you though, and if you plan on doing dungeons a lot, you'll have fun.

I love treants! IMO it's one of the best "oh &**%" buttons in the game.

Does anyone know how much damage exactly the treants do? I saw one duel where my friend (boomkin) destroyed an MS warrior with the treants, the treants surrounded him and the warrior just panicked having no idea what to do. He ended up just standing in one place and dying. (this kind of inspired me to create a druid)

How is the treant dmg determined? Does it scale with Int or +dmg?
Or is it just a set piece of dmg(which would be lame)?

They melee attack only, and can hit for about 80 - 115 damage in lvl 60. However, the spell damage and the attack power of the Moonkin Druid gets added to the melee attack of the treants. Not only that, but the attack is immensely fast, being able to burn through enemies quite quickly. Very useful against casters in PvP as the three trees quickly do a lot of damage and make it difficult to get off non-instant spells...

At level 70 against unarmored targets they hit for an average of about 176 base damage, plus about between 7% and 10% of your +spell damage (per hit). Attack speed is somewhere between 1.5s and 1.8s

Let's just say I respecced Doomkin today. I'm 55, and I've been Feral this whole time, and I love it to pieces. I intend on going back to feral at 70, but I thought I'd try laser-chicken.

Anyway, a note on Treants, they're so good that I accidentally ganked a horde druid. The way they attack is very different compared to a hunter or lock pet, even a shadowfiend/water elemental. You don't get a pet bar, so control is minimal, and they seem to attack based on proximity, and perhaps respond to you being hit (I'm not 100% sure but it'd make sense).

So I had treants up to kill a furbolg, and then I walked across the camp to find more, and I ran past a druid who was doing the same quest. 30 sec later my friend says, "lawl that was just mean." and I replied, "What did you kill him?" he said, "No, your treants did."

I had no clue! It was beautiful, couldn't stop laughing XD.

But yeah so far Doomkin is fun. My only complaint is the downtime. Ferals have ZERO downtime, unless you get in a couple jams, then you just heal yourself and innervate and it's game time. I have to drink after every few pulls like I did with my priest, but overall it's still fun. Treants ftw.

Yeah, I've had my treants attacking someone in a bg and then if I start getting hit have one or 2 come charging over to defend me. Be warned though, treants will tear through lowbie mobs. Go to the barrens at 70, summon your treants and they'll completly raze a quillboar encampment on it's own. Thankfully they dont go zooming after higher level mobs as much, otherwise they'd be dangerous to use (and instant wipes in dungeons)

Gotta love em though. :)

I have noticed they also do a very good job in dungeons of not attacking the CC'd mob, sheep, ice block, whatever is being used they generally stay away from them. Props to my trees.

This AI is the same as a pet's. They stop attacking if target hit trap. MOre I learn about Druids, the more excited I get. What's in the Xpac? Druid can make expresso? Can do almost everything else.

What do they get in Xpac you ask?

Olde video is olde, but still amazing, hah.

I personally tried balance but I found feral to be better for
leveling, did balance to around 40ish then feral all the way after and haven't turned back since.

i think your looking at difficulty and downtime speccing balance before moonkin. but once you hit 40 it becomes a very viable option. the treants are super cool, probably the highest damage to mana cost spell in the game as the three of them can easily do 6,500 damage in 30 sec at level 50 for about 125 mana. i sometimes wish i could send them at targets besides the first cast. resto to me seems like more of an endgame or dungeon runnin only spec as i would imagine taking down mobs solo questing would be terribly slow.

I have been all 3 specs and I LOVED boomkin. I just found it harder to heal instances which was my favorite role when I got to about 65 so I went resto. I still have about 17 points in balance so I stay in caster form a lot. The treants rock and are the best of @^%$ button in the game. Bottom line is do what is fun. For the person interested in healing I did feral until 50 then balance but collected healing gear as well as spell damage gear and did just fine healing until about 65 when I feel you really need the extra boosts in the resto tree.
