44 Warrior Needs Talent HelpFollow

#1 Jan 28 2008 at 9:58 AM Rating: Decent
Right now I'm mostly specced in Arms and it's working but I like using a shield and being able to Shield Bash. I like tanking and enjoy holding aggro but still want to be able to level up to 70 doing quests. I'm looking for a build that will let me tank effectively enough under 70 and allow me to level up. Problem is right now that I get rage starved sometimes when using a shield as I don't do much damage.

In my current spec Overpower doesn't pop for me very often. Not sure if it's because I'm a Orc using a axe or if it's just a low occurence. So I don't get that +50% crit chance I invested in Imp Overpower very often.

I'm thinking of investing in Shield specialization and Imp Shield block. To help generate rage and help block attacks. It seems that Revenge is always up adding a lot of DPS.

Am I crazy to even consider a build like this:

One last question is there a way to see that Overpower is up, ie: your enemy dodged while in other stances?

You dont really need any points in prot pre 70 to tank effectively. Its more about gear. If you are experience rage issues, maybe you could try a 2h fury build?

Edit: scrolling combat text, or even the blizzard standard scrolling text in the interface options will let you know when the opponent has dodged, even in other stances (at least for sscrolling combat text, i haven't used the blizzard one in a while.)

I would recommend

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warrior/talents.html?000000000000000000000000505010500521205310000000000000000000000000

for maximum rage efficiency and max dps with a 2h'er build.

Alternatively you can try an arms build -

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warrior/talents.html?050023213520105100010000400000000000000000000000000000000000000000

with whatever weapon spec you like, for a tad more survivability.

In all seriousness though, you shouldn't have to go prot for anything until roughly 68.

And blizzard combat text does show dodges if you check that option

Thanks all! Russki I like the 2H in the fury tree idea. Seems like it could really work.

let me give you another option to try when you ding 50. since you seem to enjoy tanking and using a sword & board as i do, you might want to start getting comfortable with a prot build soon. i leveled from 20 as prot and the 40's sucked big time, so don't do it now. however, with 50 comes devastate and grinding gets SO much easier.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warrior/talents.html?000000000000000000000000000000000000000000002035511033000120501351

you can move 3 points from toughness to improved revenge if you like; it not useful on bosses, but it's nice for grinding and instance trash.

you're still not going to pump out dps like an arms or fury build, but spam devastate and use demo shout and you should have very little downtime with all that armor. i do believe it will make you a better tank in the end. you can start to perfect your threat rotation now, with shield slam being a big part of that.

i know this is not a popular thing to do and people will tell you to avoid protection until 68/69, but i wanted to let you know that it's not that bad. i love tanking, but i still solo a lot without too much trouble.

and now you don't have to relearn how to play your class later.
