Wat would be good for a tank pally? I am prot spec wit 5k+ armor and that 1h mace from SM but i heard u can be a better tank as a ret or holy pally is that true? I love tanking and high armor but i want 2 do a good job and so far i have but i want 2 do even better. any suggestions?

You can be the best tank by being prot. A ret or holy is not going to outshine prot for tanking things. Link your armory and we can see your build and gear and maybe offer advice.

prot will always be the best tank. you can tank as holy or ret in most pre-bc instances if you have the gear, but prot will be easier to tank with. in outlands you will almost NEED to be prot to tank instances.

For any instance after level 40 you really have to be specced into a talent tree to be able to perform its function. A tankadin can get away with healing for Stocks or SM (sh*t, I healed Mara like three times consecutively in hybrid holy/prot) but once you get to BRD, Dire Maul and more importantly Outlands, you need to be specced for one purpose. It's not that you need to be prot to win, you need to be prot to compete.

By the way, the Sword of Serenity from the SM chain quest (the one that starts in Desolace) is a much better tanking weapon and will last up until Thrash Blade from Maraudon. I suggest getting that quest (you have to do a starter one involving killing 30 skeleton giants) then running Lib, Arms, Cath all over again and getting the bosses you need. I'm assuming you're still in the 40-ish level range. If not, BRD has some good plate pieces.

And whoever suggested Ret for tanking really needs to stop huffing kittens.

Before the changes brought about with BC I was exclusively an isntance goer (no raids or PvP) with my Paladin, mostly Ret with some Holy, and was tanking instances - was I huffing kittens? Seldom lost threat, but something must've been wrong, hmm ...

OP - Prot will be THE best tank, hands down, and a necessity come BC instances, but as said you can pass as a tank in pre BC content with gear. It's difficult, but can be done. And yes, please link your armory so we can give specifics :)

You don't really need a spell weapon yet. If you can't get enough spell damage to make a difference, you're just losing white threat, which is there, and not gaining any yellow threat.

Sword of Serenity is a good start, you should probably grab that as soon as you can. Your current mace just doesn't provide enough spell damage to really make a difference, and it is wayyyy too slow.

Your gear is fine, mostly stamina with a blend of other stats.

As for your talents, they are reallly bad for your level. You should have reckoning and Holy Shield by now. I would recommend a full respec now, and grabbing a build like this. I don't usually recommend respecs at such a low level (43 isn't huge) but you really need it in order to succeed. Here is a build you should be at right now, and look at the instance tank build in the FAQ and keep moving down that. I would also read up on that section in the FAQ and when you get into your 60s you'll want to read Thels' sticky which goes more into detail about the nuances of tanking gear selection.

Link helps,thanks.

Alot of new pallies, particularly tanks have a tendency to put point in improved devotion aura, in the earliest of levels, this may be ok, but as you progress, which you have there are some reallocation of points I would recommend. Everything else has been said so this is the only additional items I can see.

Take the two points out of guardians favor - useless talent imo and put them in shield specialization, tanks are best with sword and board so you really want to up those talents. Then I would take the five out of imp dev aura and put them in the one handed wep specialization, makes a huge difference.

Or, wait on that and if you solo alot, even in old world and earlier level dungeons, reckoning can be great, but bless of sanctuary is a must to me then the other four points can start going in reck. Kings is nice, and nice for early levels as you may only have one pally in a group as opposed to end game items where there is usually a pally with it, but for me, using blessof sanc is my blessing and I can get BoK later in the game so I would take that point out and put it in reck to fill it out.

Reck is great for soloing, grinding, farming, and such and has served me well in instances until 70,even still in normal dugeons.

Overall your talents look spot on,I would also add a fast wep if it hasnt been mentioned and a nice shield.
