Pure Talent TreesFollow

So, I'm a 35 mage that has speced all fire thus far. Just curious if there is ever a time that it is advantageous to not go hybrid at all and just spec completely in one talent tree. Part of the reason I ask is that everything I've read says "Go fire, go fire, go fire" for lvling, but then the same people tout fire/arcane for PvP. I'm only fond of PvE for the purpose of lvling and have way more fun in BGs. I want to lvl well, but own in BGs too. Will a pure tree help? Advice?

A pure leveling tree works well, at least until you get more points to spend. Full fire isn' that common (as most spend around 47/48 points at most in the tree) while going full frost (51 or more points) can be fairly common for raiding/etc. I preferred frost for leveling, it still went quickly and it is fun to use, so I will leave that up to you.

I'll just say one thing immediately: never spend all of your points in one tree, not even Fire. Every tree has its share of talents you ought to ignore.

That said, it's just as advantageous, in a sense, to go deep into a tree (as in: spending most of your points in a tree) as it is to make a hybrid build. You lose potential across multiple trees but gain the true power of that one tree.

Deep Fire can work wonders in PvE and PvP, and Arcane/Fire is a good PvP spec. My mage is deep Frost-specced: Frost is very popular and useful for PvP, and it also grants a very fun, powerful and effective levelling experience.

And AoE grinding. ^_^

The fact of the matter is that any one tree can do very well in PvE or PvP. The hybrid trees tend to lean towards PvP. If you're having fun in BGs, and doing well in BGs, then just stay the course. Ultimately the success of any build depends on the skill of the player.

Good luck. ^_^

Well, speaking in a general sense and not a mage sense, going purely into one tree can be just as advantageous as going deep into one tree as going into a 2/3s, 1/3 hybrid, as is going into a 50/50 hybrid, depending on which class, which trees, and what situation.

I know that it's not crazy for 0/0/61 frost mages and 0/0/61 resto shaman. The reason is that these trees are saturated with both great talents and good talents. On the other hand, people tend to only put 41-44ish points maximum in an elemental shaman tree because there's some talents in the resto tree that helps them, and there's few good talents left in the elemental tree after those that they picked. You'll often find 41/0/20 elemental shaman, and you'll find 16/45/0 and 0/45/16 shaman than full 0/61/0 enhancement shaman (are there even that many talents in the enh tree?)

You can find almost pure shadow priests, and hybrid disc/holy priests. It's not the case in the World of Warcraft that 55-61 points in only one tree is always a noobish thing to do. It's always a matter of what's where.
