Pala build – respec timeFollow

#1 Jan 27 2008 at 6:41 AM Rating: Decent
Hi all
I trying to lvl up a new pala.
I want it to be Protection pala (tank) for raids / inst.

What will be the right way to level up this pala for tanking at the talent tree? Some Pala told me to use Retribution until lvl 36 then respec to protection due to reckoning talent. Some other saying wait for Holy shield

Please tell me what you Pala’s think and when should I start to respect?

i went prot whole way. they say 35 for reck for aoe grinding the best. not till 20 or so when you start getting better for multi mob tanking.

10 to 19 -- Get Improved Blessing of Might followed by Improved Devotion Aura, your character is so low and at this point the other available options just don't compare to these 2 talents. Sword and Board is usually best bet here, as the DPS will only be boosted a marginal percent by using a 2hander.

Respec at 20 to Retribution. If you really want to level the fastest, take this route up to 39. It leaves you with less options than a Holy/Ret or a straight Prot build, and you will not be a very good tank, but you will dish out more DPS than a Feral Druid and complete quests at one of the fastest paces in the game if properly equiped - not to mention 29 and 39 BG Brackets are extremely fun as Retribution Pally. Go with the slowest 2Hander you can, use Seal of Crusader, Devotion Aura, and Blessing of Wisdom.

You may get bored along the way up as Retribution and want to try out Protection for tanking. Use this Protection build to however high you can on there. As protection Paladin you will rely on your Spell damage output, primarily from reflective damage. 30-60 are amazingly fun to Tank as Paladin, as with a decent healer it is absolutely possible to take on groups of 5-8 elites (more in some cases) and have your groups do AE damage. Prot is slow on the grind though. It takes about the same time to kill 1 monster as it does to kill 4, which sounds great in theory except questing on the most part becomes a huge drag - which is the best way to level since 2.3...

Once you get to 40 you're on your own. You can follow either of those paths down more, try for a hybrid of those + Holy, or do your own thing entirely. For you, I suggest 40+ to stick to Protection, as it will make Protection a very comfortable build for you by the time you get into OL where it actually becomes more difficult to tank, and huge groups are no longer as viable an option.

ALL of the Teir 7-10 Talents for Paladins are Amazing, which essentially means your best bet is to at least 41-out in 1 tree, and have a clearly defined role. Ret will continue to be the easiest to use for Questing, while Prot makes a damn good Group Tank as well as a ridiculous Rep farmer. Holy tends to lack on the efficiency when doing damage, but makes one of the most unique and powerful Healers in the game, and you will have NO trouble finding groups.

Good luck on your trip up~
