I was just wondering for the 21/40 destruction build how much dmg should I get rid of to increase my crit. Would trading 50 spell damage for .5 crit increase the dps? Just looking for a round number.

At the moment I'm sitting at 1155 shadow, 820 fire, 17.18% crit, and 203 hit with fel armor on. Thinking about switching out some damage for crit, just weary about losing to much spell damage.

Not sure about that, Im bad at math, but what I am sure about is everyone says you want 1000 spelldmg, 25% crit(I dont remember if that's before or after devastation though), and about 160 hit to start on destro.

Work on getting more spellcrit, without going below 950 spelldmg though.

Is that 17.18% crit value without talents? Please include your armorylink and maybe someone can help you improve your equipment.
If it it not you might want to try a 40/0/21 build.
And 50 spelldamge is worth alot more than .5% crit.

the general concencous is this (using a bit of indexing here)

1+dmg = 1
+1crit = 0.5-0.6
1+hit = 1.5
1+haste = 1.4
1+shadow = 0.9
1+fire = 0.1

all these (except the first) are dependant on your current rating with that stat. obviously at 202 hit, +1hit is work 0 from that point onwards, also that haste is only worth collecting if you can break 5% (roughly 80 rating) as anything less requires to long a combat to be worth while. (also, if you're interest, the 'haste cap' is at 40%, as beyond that SB goes below a 1.5sec cast)

If i don't have them equipped, for bosses i switch out Ashyen's gift with +12 dmg enchant
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29172;source=live
and handwraps of flowing thought with +15 hit enchant, and 8 spell crit gem(looking at armory I realized my other gem was a regular crit, stupid me. probably gunna pop an Intellect gem in.)
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=28507;source=live

With Fel Armor this gives me 203 spell hit, 1155 Shadow, 820 fire, 17.18% crit(not counting devastation), 8280 health and 7176 mana.

This week we start nightbane and then kara is clear. Then we'll head onto ZA then gruul's and Mag when we have enough people. Anything before that I can get.

From a post earlier I had read to have destruction out dps affliction you want 170 hit, 1,000 dmg, 15% crit before devastation, 8,000 health and mana. I know I am low mana-wise for the destruction build and i'm currently looking for things to rectify that. As it is though, I'm kinda at the mercy of our tanks threat building. I am also still tweaking my build as I just went 21/40 last week.

My main question is about my neck and off-hand, just wondering if I should trade those out for stuff with crit. Wondering, as the topic said, what is the ratio for +dmg to +crit. Don't want to switch out all my damage gear for crit gear if it will actually lower my dps.

kk, well for a simple straight ratio. just say that 2crit = 1dmg, as for your neck and offhand. if you can get the neck from prince i'd use that, and for your offhand. get the spell haste one from badges. best to 2nd best offhand in the game (depends on current stats)
also. don't gem for int or crit. hit or +dmg is all you need. gemming for crit is a complete waste

I've been thinking about the spell haste off-hand from badges. At the level I am it is the only thing I can get that will boost my haste rating. While it is "better" than my off-hand atm, would it not be wasted until we break into ZA and start getting other haste items? As you said earlier, it's only worth getting if you can break 5%.

idd. well you can get the badges wrists (or crafted ones) for extra haste, and the legs if needed (not worth getting imo though). and ya, until you can get a bit to about 5% haste, it's not really worth equiping it... but that doesn't mean it's not worth collecting it for once you get it. also the offhand is better regardless. like 2 less shadow damage at the gain of mana and actual +dmg plus some haste that will help a bit on bosses

You could potentially get higher, if you have the gold. Looks like you have 3 guilds well into BT right now, so you can probably find the epic tailored shoulder pattern, someone with the wrist pattern, and the hearts of darkness if you're willing to drop the gold - that's over 5% there, though more than likely you'll be dropping at least 2000g into those 2 items. A few ZA items will easily bring it up further, once you get in there.

Not to get off-topic, but I'd have to disagree with that. As a warlock, you should never gem for int, but gemming for crit isn't a bad thing. If you need more crit (which the OP does), or you're trying to fill a socket bonus, it can sometimes be better than +spell damage. Personally I can't stand people who do 100% +damage and disregard any bonus that their gear can give them.

It's mostly dependant on your gear and what your stats are now, but you might want to consider hybrid gems (like +crit and +damage). Don't gem for stam/int, that will come with better gear. Also, you might want to consider re-gemming your gear to make use of the socket bonuses, some of which are pretty good. You have a lot of damage for not having entered a 25 man raid, but your crit is definately lacking. Don't be afriad to sacrifice damage for more spell crit, but just use your judgment. Under 20% even before talents is really low if you want to do well as 0/21/40.

So basically regem your gear and do Gruul! Just a tip for your guild, ZA is going to be harder for Gruul, so you might want to start doing Gruul instead of ZA.

Went into ZA for laughs the other day and downed the first boss pretty easy, unfortunatly didn't give the second boss a go due to it being an off-raid night and people had to go. As of right now we can't do gruuls simply because we don't have the people. Recruiting now, but until then it's kara and ZA. /sigh
