Enjoyable alts for a hunterFollow

#27 Jan 27 2008 at 8:19 AM Rating: Decent
I have to disagree a bit. Warlocks are far more complicated to play than a Hunter. The sheer ******* of curses, damage spells and so on makes for enormous amounts of optional courses of action. When I play my Warlock I can do things several different ways, depending on my mood or situation.

On my Hunter, I have two choices. Pet tank, or kite the mob. The only variations would be nuking with Arc/Multi/Steady and possibly a sting. Not really any other choices.

i find most classes great fun and have all except warrior , i still dislike the full on melee

mage is good after you get past those early levels , yesterday i was doing some farming for silk and a little argent rep in the plague-lands and was fascinated watching a mage frost trapping several mobs at once , dam that was fun to see him zapping so many and so fast , it surprised me just how many he could handle at his level as i remember when i was the same level i had no resistance's to those undeads damage

rogue is great fun sneaking around , i am still figuring out the game play on rogues but when you have to get through a lot of mobs to kill their leader it cannot be beaten as a class

druid is my favourite alt the variety of forms and the healing aspect sure works for me , charge in do a little magic change into cat or bear, i still prefer cat though , do some serious damage change back heal and keep going ,

i find no matter what class each mob has a different amount of difficulty , things your hunter found hard another class will wonder what the problem was , i guess it just depends on what you fancy trying as i have tried them all up to just over level 20 and having recast all mine at some stage am now getting most up to 40 this time , my favourite thing though is when i get problems with mobs i just return at a higher level and get my revenge and farm them for fun

My thinking is this, albeit narrow minded... Unless you are a tank or a healer, your alt should be a tank or healer.

I have to admit, I agree with this completely. If I ever started a guild, one thing I'd make all the DPS do is roll a tank or healer, and run a low-level instance with other guildies (the tanks and healers could be the DPS :) ) and have the low-level DPS intentionally make bad pulls, yank mobs off the tank, etc., just so that the high-level DPS could understand how much it sucks for the tanks/healers when the high-level DPS don't control themselves.

Can you tell my main is a tank?

And what if someone simply doesnt like to be tank or healer?
I dont like healing.
I dont like close contact with mobs.

My main is a lock, I made hunter for farming and started to like her for running instances too.
I got bit tired of pets though... full demo lock and BM hunter was bit too much for me. So I respecced to "petless" lock and went on playing both my toons. I enjoy being ranged dps, I never had fun when I tried healing or melee classes.

And I am for sure not going to pay attention to what someone thinks I should play.
Roll few toons and see what you have fun with. Your money, your game, your fun.

I tend to enjoy playing my warrior and my rogue. They are a nice change from the hunter. They might not be like them but they are fun to play IMO. A warrior is difficult to master and a rogue it just, well, fun. I like the challenge the warrior gives. I also look foward to 70 with my rogue and my warrior, then there will be a nice change in pvp strategy and style.

To the OP:

You say:
- you hate levelling
- you think you want to do is tank

I say:
- try a protection paladin!

Levelling becomes a blast: AoE grinding with your paladin is big fun because you feel .. well .. kind of .. invincible! And this makes questing in BORING places as you put it obsolete (if you like, it IS faster though these days).

Plus you can try the tanking in instances or whatsoever which is very cool as a paladin. "No please, do not CC the adds, I can handle them perfectly... yes yes all together is what I mean... no don't worry I will hold aggro on all of them fine... yes please, blast away!"

Besides it is TOTALLY different from playing a hunter, which is good if you are looking for another class. Just do not give up your paladin too fast, the real power starts at level 40 (holy shield) and 42 (improved holy shield).

Whatever you do (in total agreement with Sethy): have fun the way YOU like to have fun in this GAME.

I agree, I took my hunter out of commision for quite some time (have been out with strep throat for 5 weeks) and when I felt well enough, I like hopping on my palladin. I was ret, but after I respecced to holy, I haven't stopped being invite to go places. I'm telling you I felt horrid with strep, but it didn't take a lot of focus to heal for groups. Found a really nice guild too, not to mention I got paid for being sick, so all in all strep wasn't too bad! LOL

Seriously though, I've got an alt of every class, and warlock was my least favorite. I didn't like being so squishy. Took more of a liking to a shaman. Depends on what ya like best as a hunter.

It would really be that horrible to level up to mid-teens to run VC or RFC? I'm just saying, I think anyone who wants to play a DPS class should understand what it's like being a tank or healing. Tanks should probably know what healing is like, and healers what it's like to tank. I just think that those who don't tank/heal would appreciate their tanks/healers more if they understood what it was like, and would be less likely to do something stupid when DPS'ing to cause problems for the tank or healers.

I'm not saying you should dedicate more than a day or two to it. I'm just saying I think it would be nice if everyone knew what it was like to be in the other role's shoes.

I tried every class up to 20ish or so. Further I got is my 31 pally collecting dust for months now.

My main is lock as I said, my 2 best friends I leveled her with have mage and rogue. Playing every day for hours with some class gives you some insight.
I can pretty much say I know what I can expect from them and how they work.
Aprt from the fact they are very good players both and alway willing to discuss their class.

Then we got sort of stuck on our mains and rolled alts. Me hunter, mage rolled warrior and rogue holy pally. Same deal. Leveling, questing, instancing, doing everything together.
We did dailies for my 2 epic flyers together.... that is lot of time trust me. We are raiding together now too, warrior is our MT. I wouldnt dream doing Heroics with pug tank or healer now.

In more than a year of close working with some classes I think I got pretty good understanding of how they work.
But I still do not find tanking or healing any more attractive for me. Even more so the more I learned about it.

When I played the warlock it wasn't as challenging for me to play as the hunter.

It wasn't a question if another class is as complicated or not, I gave my personal opinion on the matter

Druids, Mages and Rogues I liked playing for their unique challenges and ambiguity. The main reason I dislike the warlocks is because it's a no brainer to play when you're used to controlling a pet as a hunter.

For this hunter. I enjoyed playing a tankadin and a priest.

yeah I know... A little to the right of everyone else... meh.

*Edit* Also love playing the Warrior class. (After 20 at least) *thinks of the next 8 more levels until I get my next warrior to 20... /gag

After more than a year of playing only a hunter, i finally rolled an alt as a shadow priest.

I have to stay it's a real nice change of pace. I was surprised at how much survivability the priest has. Bubble blast, bubble heal, blast some more. There's plenty of fights i dont even take any damage.

I've even healed a couple of instances now, at lvl23, and the responsibility of keeping the whole group alive is a different kind of challenge.

My hunter will always come first, but going from a night elf hunter to dranei priest has kept the game interesting.

Plus it gives me a place to hide when the guildies get on my nerves. Ha!
