Does Jumping Help AOE Spells?Follow

#1 Jan 25 2008 at 7:29 AM Rating: Good
..or is it just a 'style' thing?

I've noticed lots of Mages jumping when casting a Arcane Explosion, Blastwave, Frost Nova etc and I was wondering why?

Does it increase the radius or power of the spell? Or is this just an 'urban WoW myth'? Is it just a 'style/image' thing?

Thanks,

I doesnt do anything for range.
It makes youre run path a bit more unpredictable confusing unexperienced melee characters.

If i recall corectly it used to help as when you were off the ground the range was increased somehow. But couple of patches ago it got fixed if i recall correct.

Now it is only hoping the targetting becomes harder

A lot of immobilizing effects also seem to allow you to continue your jump path before getting you. While this is generally unimportant, even if it saves you from 1 intercept, blind, wingclip, ect so that you're out of immediate melee range when your Frost Nova goes off it's worth it to start jumping, at least on spells like Frost Nova and Blast Wave, since they have a chance to keep your melee opponents out of reach of you.

Being blind with a rogue Frozen just out of melee range is ALOT different than having him frozen in melee range =P

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. Thought I remembered something about jumping increasing AOE range but thought the patch a while back changed that.

Yep it changed. To be honest I never knew that jumping round increased its radius until lv 40 odd but did it anyway. I still do it now as well... I stand still to cast firebolt so I want to jump randomly so its more fun. Mages who don't move whilst spamming arcane explosion just make me giggle

I started jumping while hitting Arcane Explosion back in the old days of level 60 AV PvP. Nothing was harder to hit for a melee enemy(or even a non melee) than that mage jumping around like an idiot around the middle of their group, behind them, then they turn, then behind again, and on and on, just spamming AE.

I took the habit with me to PvE, and I do it to this day.

Jump for bigger crits as they say. My rule of thumb is...if I can jump and use an ability at the same time then I JUMP. There isn't anything much more fun that jumping and skipping around like a jackass while damaging opponents. How pissed do you get in the arena when some lock is hopping around the battle field dotting the s hit out of you, fairly annoyed I imagine. Jumping is just more fun =p

I think they fixed it, I haven't tested it, but it seems harder to coc people now, then again, jumping still allows more movement while using instant casts, so I just kept jumping.
