I’m an Arcane/Fire hybrid mage 29/32/0 (see signature for armoury link).

Now that I’ve hit 70 I’ve started to work on attunement for Karazhan along with hitting a few extra OL instances for rep and a few gear improvements. I’m also running a few BGs at the moment to get a few purples under my belt.

I’ve chosen my talents as I’ve levelled and as such have tried to get the best of both worlds in the fire and arcane trees.

I’ve read the stickies cover to cover many times and know that the 10/48/3 spec is great for raiding with the 17/0/44 spec for PvPing. I’m thinking that my talents let me Raid and PvP without having to respec all the time

So should I be expected to respec every time I want to change from playing PvP to Raids and visa versa or is there a spec that is good enough for both? Feel free to tell me I’m deluded with any constructive criticism you might have :)

As mentioned earlier, I’m working on getting a few purples from BGs so my question on this is: will PvP gear help me in raids? Surely a PvP purple item is better than a blue world drop item when entering Karazhan for the 1st time right? My end goal will be to have sets of gear but that takes time…

Thanks

Some PvP gear is better for raids than others. The weapon and the bracers are both actually good pieces for PvE. Craftable epics would be better for most other slots than PvP stuff. Some instance blues are MUCH better for raids(trinkets especially) than anything through PvP. And no matter what, you absolutely want to hit revered with the Sha'tar. The helm enchant is too nice to pass up.

Gear wise, I think you question was answered.

I'm mostly a frost mage, I ran fire and 3minute mage specs too. I fuond that 3 minute mage (arc/fire, check the sticky) is a great build pvp and workable EARLY raid if you add clearcasting and such. That was how I entered Kara the frist time. Noob raid guild and we made past Curator while I was 1st or close in dps. Best build? Hell no... but it will teach you agro control when your fireballs go from 1.5k to 4k crits! hahah

But mostly if you're long term fire, and you don't have much pvp gear you'll miss out true power of frost anyways. For bgs and a little arena and raiding, I found that it worked fine till I went back to deep frost.

Oh and while you've prob seen it else where...

If you're serious about raiding... you may want to powerlevel tailor for that epic spellfire set... really will knock your socks off for.... 3-5k goldish.

I consider myself more of a 4-5 minute mage with the talents I have now. I reckon I'll respec to the 10/48/3 when I start getting into Kara full time but for the moment I stay with what i have until it starts becoming a problem.

I hadnt realised until recently that the spellfire set requires you to have tailoring which is gutting really as I'm currently 373/375 on Alchemy/Herbs.

Thanks

Now with iceblock being trainable and with blazing speed 10/48/3 isnt half bad for Arena's and BG's, if youre main focus is PvE and youre PvPing to scrounge some weekly points for an epic or two that is.

Honestly things like vindicator's silk boots won't really replaced in any of the T4 content either. A few other upgrades are nice too, the newest vindicator's ring, the neck piece if you have bad luck on the moroes neck, gladiator shoulders are solid until you get T4.

Personally I spend a large chunk of my time fire for raiding, and I don't mind running bg's with that spec (0/50/11). Then I respec to frost on weekends, I like it more for arena, PVP and I try to get out there and grind primal fires while I have the better oppurtunity.

The OP hadn't really decided on his spec so the boots weren't really something I was ready to suggest in case he went frost. As for the ring, I'm still a big fan of running instances and getting Ashyen's Gift and the one from Spirit Shards.

The neck could be good, and nothing horribly wrong with the shoulders either, unless, again, he goes frost and has the option for FSW. I pointed out the two pieces I did because there's really no other options for those slots that would be better without badge gear or Prince+ loot.

well I was in a guild group last night in BM trying for The Masters Touch and access to Kara. We had perhaps 5 attempts at it and wiped them all. I think I'm getting too much agro too quickly and just cant get enough DPS out on the rift lords to down them quick.

Going to try better by respeccing to 10/48/3, already working on some of my gear too but that'll take while, not sure if just the respec will work for me but its worth a try.

thanks for your advice, its been really helpful

If threat is an issue, consider arcane. Deep frost and usage of the water elemental comes in a good second.
