Before 2.3 patch the most easy opponenets for mages were the hunters..Just some practise .learn about dead zone and thats it..After 2.3 hunters become a nightmare..If we take 2 equal geared ,1 frost mage and 1 BM hunter there is noway we can defeat them..not even if we are 2 of us...the only chance is if we are instant pyro..and we hit first..any ideas for BM hunters?

Heh, maybe the thread title could be PvP Vs Hunter Techniques?

-- I know this forum as a few very strong raiding mages, but I wonder about pvp.

armory me and you'll see I don't rank up in the arena, yet I still think I'm a solid wild pvp player.

First imporant tip vs BM hunters -- ICEBLOCK WHEN HIS PET GOES RED!

you can't survive the beating you will take, just ride it out and watch as his best buff ticks away.

Second important tip - HAVE YOUR PET OUT when you ice block

don't waste all that beautiful passive dmg...

Third Tip - Close to melee range
No it's not perfect, and he's still beating you in the face, but he's not shooting you, and he can't use half of his tricks. So this is where you want to be (I often Blink INTO a hunter)

Fourth - maybe poly the pet... this is iffy post poly nerf.. but if you have a focus macro it can still be worth the time spent casting (IF YOU IN MELEE RANGE)

Fifth... don't feel bad if he still powns you... thats the way the game works.
If you play it right you can still beat a hunter, if they are not skilled/not geared/ or if you get lucky, but a warrior they are no longer.

Considering that every tool we used to fight Hunters has been systematicly nerfed since the Arena came live, try not to stress it. No deadzone, no 30 sec poly, no double iceblock

But when you think that locks will be powned by rouges (ok s3 stories are diffent but meh) rouges powned by warriors etc etc.... we now just have a killer class. Ya ya locks kill us too, but really wiht skill you should be 1/4 to 50/50 with locks, it's all in the counter spell

My personal strategy, just short and simple. If there isnt a deadzone just go into melee range what are they gonna do? Raptor Strike you every 6 seconds?...lulz

uh... hunter's S3 'stat stick' axe still hits like a truck... but then there's ice barrier....

If its a BM hunter like you said getting into melee range is gonna be fun. He can intimidate which is a stun. I think you may be able to blink out of it but then you are back at range.

Hunters will rape you from range, thats a fact. So the only solution is still to get right up in their face, eat those raptor strike crits and spam instants in their face. If you can ice block through the latter half of TBW you should be fine. Stack good PVP gear, its not the end of the world. Funny thing, I've been running BG's as fire/raid spec and actually doing better against hunters then I typically do in frost.

I'm not saying spec fire though just because of hunters lol. But I generally destroy them as fire, where frost battles are extremely close.

Sorry there should be no way a hunter takes out 2 mages unless you're terribly geared or fighting him wrong. Get 300+ resil, 10k+ health, 850+ spell damage and stay in their face.

if your fire spec try getting far away from him sheep him then get of a scorch before hes pet starts hitting you blink right in his face and youse you instant cast spells but youse dragons breath last both hunter and pet need to be in the aoe then try to get of another scorch in time and if there still not dead...try to yous as many instant cast spells as posable IB if you need to wait for cooldowns

it all depends on if you can sheep the hunter in time oh and if pet dosnt charge you...

Why would you go to range and intentionally eat damage + pushback trying to sheep him?
#9 Jan 26 2008 at 5:16 AM Rating: Default
because you don't try to sheep the hunter, you sheep his pet.

And considering that he´s BM, he'll just pop BW and take the pet out of Sheep.

BM Hunters are not that hard, stay on Melee an play with his Global Cooldown. Trinket the Wing Clip/trap and keep him snared, Nova always when it´s up and burn him with insta casts.

When he uses BM, kite him until your Ice Barrier fades or until his pet start hitting you, then Block and wait. Don't mind putting WE out unless you are preety sure he'll be alive to do some dmg or use Cold Snap and summon the second, I'd save Could Snap to finish him off if I need (if you summon the WE when the Hunter pops BW, you will need to Block...and he'll just target your pet and 2 shot it). Considering you have Cold Snap up and he pops BW too early (or you make him feel the need to pop) kite until Barrier fades and Block, then close range and summon the WE...Nova, Ice Lance until it breaks, Fireblast, CoC, Freeze, Ice Lance until it breakes, cold snap and repeat...if he's still alive, burn Fireblast, CoC and AE until your Nova/Freeze is up again. If Frostbite procs, things might be easier.

Honestly, I think Marks Hunter much more dangerous than the BMs. Silence Shot, Scatter Shot and the sustained dmg he has are more dangerous than a burst dmg we can completely (or almost completely) negate.

Would like to know what do you have to say about being jumped by a hunter with a Scatter Shot and following Steady Shot?
if you IB out of it then his big red pet will trample you and if you trinket out what you'll do after wingclip? Want to point that if you'll wait untill he lands a steady shot that kinda hurts =)
Any ideas?

Line of sight the hunter, pull the pet (woosh) 'round the corner and kill it, then stick close to the hunter, and spam instants from there.

Try to use your pet at a time where he doesn't have the space to kill it. It generally takes a hunter about 2-4 seconds to take out a pet. You won't be able to sheep the hunter.

Mages have no realistic chance to beat hunters 1v1 since they removed the deadzone though, in my opinion anyway. Melee+pet is way more damage then you'll get out of instants, and good hunters will pull their pet back once you get it around a corner and wait for their viper sting to drain you.

I agree with hunters being easier if you're specced fire. Those two extra instant casts (or well, one, but DB>CoC so much) really make a huge difference.

@ last post: Trinket and run towards him.

yeah... that's all. get some godlike gear and you'll be fine against hunters. who magically aren't equally well geared.
