Hey guys. I have a profession question. I am currently Mining/skinning because I heard they make good money early on and that of course is always good. But I eventually want to switch to tailoring for sure(not sure about what other profession I want yet) but i was wondering at what level does it become worth switching to tailoring(when does the gear become worth it). Thanks in advance.

If I did it again I would find a guide that estimates how much cloth I need and just start saving what I need to max it out. Youll need alot, but you can just mail to an alt for storage.

At about 60-65 I would get rid of one of your prof's and power tailoring to 375 to start making shadowcloth. As soon as you get enough shadowcloth make your FSW set.

excellent advice!

great link ,look to the bottom at addons and lootables powerleveling:

Exclusive Patterns

Shadoweave Tailoring gives exclusive access to the following patterns:

* [Frozen Shadoweave Shoulders]
* [Frozen Shadoweave Boots]
* [Frozen Shadoweave Robe]

The items are Bind on Pickup, meaning only Shadoweave Tailors can equip them. The patterns can be obtained from Andarion Darkspinner, after you have completed the specialization quest.

The Frozen Shadoweave Set is arguably the best Frost Mage/Warlock/Shadow Priest equipment attainable before the 25-man raid instances. It nicely complements either Spellstrike Infusion ([Spellstrike Hood]+[Spellstrike Pants]), or the Battlecast Garb ([Battlecast Hood]+[Battlecast Pants]), because they use different equipment slots.
[edit] Material cost to construct set

The components for crafting the entire set are:

* 8x [Netherweb Spider Silk]
* 38x [Primal Water]
* 26x [Shadowcloth] (materials below assume Shadowcloth specialization, of course)
o 13x [Primal Fire]
o 13x [Primal Shadow]
o 13x [Bolt of Imbued Netherweave]
+ 26x [Arcane Dust]
+ 39x [Bolt of Netherweave]
# 234x [Netherweave Cloth]

Do not switch bfore late level 60's, around 68 or so. Keep making money with gathering. If you powerlevel with saved up cloth (ranging from linen to netherweave) and you got enough in stock you can level from 1 to 375 in no time and only the level 70 stuff is bind on pickup (and really worth it)

I disagree.
Economically, it would be better to experiment with professions early-on, to see which is more suited to how you want to play the game. After 200 skill points in tailoring, it starts to become costly, such as buying nice patterns or obtaining enough netherweave and runecloth materials.
I had a friend who was alchemy and herbalism, but complained she was not making any money off of it. I told her to change to something like leatherworking or jewelcrafting. After some convincing, she did and found that she was able to support herself more with the money she made from that.

Fols, I honestly think tailoring in general is not very exciting, because questing and all that gets you stuff that is much better than most people can make. The stats and level requirements on a lot of my patterns are not scaled to fit where I might be in the game at the time I can finally make something I would once think is really good. For example, you cant wear a full Netherweave set until around level 68, but by the time you are 65, you are already eligible for much better gear and would have no logical reason to downgrade in order to wear your own items.
The reason I have stayed a tailor, is because I have spent too much money and on mastering it, and it complements my enchanting skill very well. I can make my own enchanting materials most of the time, using cloth that drops fairly often. So together, I am pleased with the result. Enchanting is very expensive, but I usually have a constant supply of the materials I need.
Some of the patterns I have are very nice, dont get me wrong. I just think that this profession could be improved.

Imo no crafting profession is worth much before 70. Once you have enough gold you can powerlevel anything in matter of days.

I was stubborn not to buy mats above silk (I could though, I had enough money) so I farmed it all. Along with netherweave I farmed enough signets and tomes to get my Scryers exalted rep along.
Took me 2 weeks to get 0-375 tailoring. I only make belts to DE for dust and occasional cloth now, but I find my FSW and spellstrike good enough reason to keep it.
I sell SC, PMC and so on. I never sell CDs, its not worth it, I can always find extra primal for cloth and make much more profit.

I never count on tailoring as money maker though, my real gold comes from alchemy and herbalism on my hunter.

I was in a very similar situation with herbalism/skinning.

Here's what I did:

  • Stockpiled all cloth I came across while leveling. This was a lot of cloth. Created alts to hold onto each type of cloth.
  • Bought "cheap" (relative to your server's "average" prices) Runecloth and Netherweave cloth.
  • Held onto 3 stacks of rugged leather.
  • Dropped skinning and powered tailoring up to 350 at level 60.
  • Started to make Shadowcloth, Primal Mooncloth, Spellcloth.

  • Presumably the only reason you're taking tailoring is for the Frozen Shadoweave Set, so start Shadowcloth production immediately. There's a Scyer flightpath near the altar.

    Creating this cloth--as well as Primal Mooncloth & Spellcloth--will get tailoring to 360, and should generate nearly enough Shadowcloth for the Boots and Shoulders when you hit level 70. Create the boots and you will hit 361 tailoring.

    I agree with starting to PL tailoring at around level 68 or so. I did it in one day when I hit level 70. It cost me about 700g (Farstrider server) due to the fact that I bought all cloth below Netherweave. If I had started a bit earlier, I would have had much more spellcloth (this was for my mage) and been in my spellfire set a lot earlier.
