Hello. I have just re-specced my Warrior into Protection at 70. He has been 70 for awhile, I just have been aimlessly trying different combinations of talent builds.

The Warrior in question is woefully under-geared( probably from my lack of playing time in most days) and has run only a few instances as MT. I am aware from this board on the skills, abilities and situations that a tank might encounter, so I try not to consider myself completely clueless.

I have tried to reach the "uncrittable" cap on this character, and was wondering if my math was suspect, or I am correct in my assumptions. My Warrior has 5.24 percent in defense to avoid criticals, and 2.06 percent in resilience to avoid criticals. Now, my question is, do I add those two percentages to create the total "non-crittable" number? Or am I just expounding on wishful thinking.

Thank you in advance for any information or advice. I have to say that this board has been a gluttonous fountain of information to me in the past.

yes, those 2 stats do stack

you only need 490 defense rating to be crit immune to raid bosses(level 73)

490 defense = 5,60% crit reduction

on a sidenote, you shouldnt use resilience to reach this since defense gives avoidance aswell, resilience doesnt

Thank you, Chijin.

Hmm, now I understand a bit better. The Warrior in question has a 478 defense rating. So, I need 12 more of the defense stat to reach that particular nirvana of 490.

On a side note, how does defense rating factor into avoidance? Does it effect your dodge / parry / block? If so, then my factoring in of resilience to reach "un-crittable" is flawed, shamefully, flawed.

/sigh Back to the drawing board....

yeah defense rating affects defense skill, which affects dodge/parry/block %.

resilience works for tanking, just replace it with defense gear asap.

.04% to dodge, block, parry, and chance to be missed.

To clarify the above post, chance to be missed only applies to the first 5% of gaining crit immunity.

"To determine whether you have reached the crit cap through Defense and Resilience, type the following into chat:

/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(2.6-(GetCombatRatingBonus(CR_DEFENSE_SKILL)*.04+GetCombatRatingBonus(CR_CRIT_TAKEN_MELEE)),1,0.5,0)

if the number is 0 or negative, you are uncritable. If the number is above 0, you require more defense or resilience vs lvl 73 bosses."
