Getting Over Raid Noobness in ZGFollow

Sorry for the wall of text. I'll try to keep it manageable, and have broken it up into the post itself and the backstory. For the love of god don't quote the whole damn post. Anyway, here goes:

I'm not quite keyed for Kara yet, and leveled post-BC so never ran the old end game. A guy at work says I missed out because the old raids were cool content. Last night somebody was rallying a group for Zul'Grub and I jumped at the chance to do an old end game raid.

I've seen people say "there's no reason to "practice" in the pre-BC raids because BC raids are so different" but after last night I personally disagree for two reasons:

1) Just communicating and working as part of a larger "raid" group with subgroups can be intimidating and confusing. Over the course of this partial fun-run I got a LOT more comfortable working and communicating as part of a larger group.

2) On the first fight we had to kill three pre-bosses within a few seconds or they rez each other...the Kara vets were all like "Cool like Romeo and Juliet." I don't how many cases like this there might be and maybe this is crap, but having done that I guess I FEEL more prepared for R&J now than I was before running ZG.

Anyway, I plan on running more pre-BC raids when the opportunity arises, and recommend you other post-BCers try at least one for fun, too. Just make sure you bring an old school or two that knows the fights. : )

----------------------------------------

A TALE OF THREE WIPES

We started the run with 13, acknowledging that it was overkill but who cares. We were zerging the trash with no trouble. We only tackled two bosses, and wiped 3x because of 1)Impatience/Stupidity, 2)Recklessness, and 3)Bad luck, in that order. When we got our **** together we took both bosses out, but they were challenging fights.

FIRST WIPE: @#$%$@# HUNTARD!!! (aka IMPATIENCE/STUPIDITY)
On the first boss (tiger dude) an ignorant huntard got frustrated with the time being spent explaining the fight and initiated a pull before anybody knew what was going on. It's the one where the three minibosses have to die at the same time described above. Our group of 13 reasonably well-geared 70s was keeping up the fight for a LONG *** time, but you just CAN'T beat that scene if you don't know and plan for the trick of killing all three dudes simultaneously so eventually we agreed to be killed.

That situation led to some bad blood so after kicking the huntard and sorting things out we were down to seven with just one healer (a shammy) but with an actual plan we knew we took down the tiger boss the next time.

Then we moved on to the raptor boss with our motley crew of seven.

SECOND WIPE: COCKINESS / RECKLESSNESS
We had him down to 15% the first time we tried, but wiped because we'd been cocky and not cleared the area and people got feared into two nearby groups simultaneously.

THIRD WIPE: KINDA FUNNY BAD LUCK
Then we wiped a SECOND time because while clearing the trash I myself got knocked back 50 feet and landed RIGHT on the damn boss's head. He was at the bottom of the stairs instead of the top since we'd engaged him before. He makes for a rather nasty add, and that wipe came together quickly. : /

Both bosses were a little bit harder for me to tank than level 70 dungeon bosses, not sure if it was me or them or my party. I wasn't outgeared by the DPS, and I don't think I suck so I personally attribute it to them being designed to take on TWENTY well-geared level 60 toons. Sound legit? : /

I agree with your reasoning, JeeBar. My guild encourages doing the pre-BC raiding to get the feel of working in a larger group. Our runs consist of folks in their 60s+ so we're often overpowered for the content, but that's ok. It's for training (and shards).

you didnt hear this from me jeebar, but you can reset any of ZG priests by running out of their respective areas (the exception being arlokk, since her room becomes closed off).

instead of wiping on the tiger, ya coulda just ran out to the main drag :(

works for spider, snake, and bat too (but not bloodlord or jin'do).

so true. Actually seen a raid group of mostly 65+ fail on a PuG ZG. Why? no coordination, most of the group no raid experience and no discipline. So take your end level 60s for a ride on ZG, fun and excellent training in learning to focus and listen to centralised commands
