I've played WoW for like..ages. Coming close to 2 years now...

I had my case of alt-itus, and spent ages deciding on what I wanted to roll. In the end, took a Priest u to 70. Then got bored of only healing so re-spec'd Shadow. Good DPS, but low survivability.

Then went Rogue, pure DPS. Got to 63, loved him to bits, but got bored.

SO now, having gone HORDE, I have decided to roll a new class and hit 70 before the new expansion comes out. And I chose Druid. It seems from reading about it, and common knowledge to fit my taste.

I can DPS, I can Heal, I can Tank. And all of them to a very good degree. What I wanted to know was how good? I have seen a number of Tanks as Druids, but are they still sought after much in end game raids for DPS and Healing? In my old Guild, we had 2 Resto Druids healing in Kara. But most where Priests/Pally's.

I understand that the class is Hybrid, so the "Jack of All Trades". Good at everything, best at nothing", but to what degree? Thanks for anyone who replies in advance!

They are without competition the best off tank in the game, because we can tank and dps very well with the same spec. Only a quick change of wardrobe and you push out nice dps. You may not be the best dps, but you bring so much more to the raid than just dps (innervate, combat res, picking up loose mobs, crit aura). As tank you can tank just about anything as well as a warrior. There are fights that are more suited for warriors, since they manage fearing mobs better and they take reduced damage from spells in defensive stance (same goes for pala tanks). The main reason most guilds choose a warrior as main tank is because you will be wasting a spot if you have a protection specced warrior try to do dps, whereas a feral druids does this very well.

As healer you would be on par with any other healer depending on the fight. Some fights favor heal over time, some favor chain heal, some favor spamming big heals on one target. In any case a good mix of all different healing classes is usually the best. A good resto druid can keep a lot of people alive and has good mana efficiency as well as the ability to res in combat.

I have no real experience with moonkin spec, but i do hear that if geared properly they can compete with pure dps classes. They are harder to lvl with than feral and resto, since healers and tanks are always needed in 5 man instances. In a 5 man instance most people prefer dps with some kind of crowd control and druids lack effective crowd control in 5 mans. In a raid setting though a moonkin druid would be nice for the added crit to other as well as the ability to innervate healers and combat res (strange how this seems to be the case with all specs :P)

So in conlusion, druids may not beat the parent class in their own game, but they come pretty damn close, and in some situations they are in fact better. In any case we are definately not considered "weak" in any of our roles

Recently, we've been having druids in our groups for instances as both tanks and healers. They're fantastic to have around, it's just the matter of actually getting a group together anymore that's the trouble.

Hi CrazyJelly!

I caught your other post about the switch, and I am glad to hear of your baby Dr00d (well... baby for today, prolly teenager by tonight :) ). I am a sad Panda because I will have to dispatch you on the field of honour (Canadian Spelling FTW) as I am Ally (for now).

I too am inflicted with terminal altitis and I can say from experience, a druid will help you fight this common WoW affliction.

Versatility is the name of the game.

"Jack of all trades, Master of none"? Maybe.

I can't out DPS a rogue, however, my HoT's are gonna keep me alive a lot longer than his bandages and pots. Boomkin vs. Mage? Not until I have some kitty bleed effects on him/her and maybe a bash.

There is also something to be said about the druids ability to recover his/her party from a near-wipe scenarios. We can fill the gaps in a party if a member goes down, AoE heal to keep the group up and CC (cyclone/hibernate/roots) when traps/poly etc fails.

This is what more often than not stops me from rolling a new toon. If I get bored there is always respec'ing to change it up.

Long story short: You will be as busy as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs (and you will love every minute of it!)

Note: I do realize most of this you already know, having played for 2 years. Anyone have the DPS info?

One suggestion though, level as Feral unless you really want to go Balance. It brings so much to the table in terms of leveling up really fast once you hit 20, 30, 40, 51, basically its so great you get something godly every 5-10 levels. Feral is also your DPS and tanking spec.

Well, about end game as druid:

- You will be the king of 2v2 arena if you go as resto.

- You will be the single best offtank for raids in game. Except for punctual bosses where spell damage is a issue (probably best for a tankadin).

- If proper equipped, you will dish out really great dps as a kitty in raids. Maybe not the number 1 on melee DPS, but quite good.

- In BGs, you will be the best flag carrier. You will be one of the best ninjas. You will 1 man almost everyone and even 2 man, if you get the opener.

- Leveling, you will have one of the classes that level quicker after 20ish, even quicker after 50ish (mangle ftw).

- You will be one of the classes that will almost never get killed in world pvp. You just have to be near a pool. =P

- You won't have great CC for PVE (maybe if they make roots castable indoor this will change, untill then...) but they are quite good for PvP, mainly Arena.

I'm not saying we are the best in something everytime. But we can be quite good in everything at the same time in specific situations.
