I've realized that this spell has massive damage potential in pvp, perhaps the most sustainable damage in the game. The DD portion of the spell (the only part that matters damage-wise) does 1300 damage for a 2 second cast time. That's 5k aoe damage in 8 seconds, which comes close to killing poorly some clothies. Over the same time period a mage's blizzard would do 1.5k damage. SoC's aoe radius is 15 yards, compared with 8 yards for blizzard, or 10 yards for AE. I think some players don't realize how large this radius is and don't or can't spread out far enough.

All this makes SoC devastating in certain situations such as defending the bottlenecks in AV. These create target rich environments where you can position yourself to be protected from melee attack. I've topped the damage charts doing this, and it's not because I have great gear. SoC scales horribly with gear.

Of course this tactic has an obvious counter, which is to dispel the dot. But it may not be so obvious that four players have been hit with SoC - it's not like you have shards of ice raining down on your head. Then boom - everyone's dead.

SoC like all AoE-Spells has a dmg-cap of around 20kdmg

I noticed 2800 last night in normal Bot, not even very buffed.

It is sweet when someone has to run one of those instances I used to dread and fear as fresh 70. No CC, no fiddling around... just SoC all the way.

Its becoming my favorite spell.

For some reason, I ignored the spell when I first got it. After using it in AV a couple times defending the releif hut when 5-6 people come to take it and there's only me and 1-2 other people defending, I swear by it.

Nothing like being outnumbered 2:1 and dropping SoC on all of them and as they pop the Warrior with you finishes everyone off cause the rogue killed you.

When in AV and casting it on a group, do a UA > SoC > UA > SoC type deal. 4 or 5 of those and much loling will ensue.

The only problem with adding in an additional dot to a SoC'd enemy is that you have less time to spread out SoC's to other people. Generally you can get 5-6 players before the first SoC goes off, which creates a chain-damage effect (in addition to the initial dot damage from SoC). If you UA in-between casts, you're first SoC will go early and most likely limit your overall damage. It's rarely dispelled - you'll generally run out of mana before a healer actually realizes what's going on and tries to prevent it.

when ever I go to AV horde always sit at the flag at that vermin mine, not that Its a problem but me and a Mage would hide behind a tree while I start casting SoC and he would run out and AE to proc SoC early and we could kill 13-14 defenders in a matter of about 15-20 seconds.... With fel armor my seed procs close to 2850 crits

Huh, I didn't realize the DD portion of this could crit. Crit must be the way to buff SoC, since the DD portion only receives 16.6% + spelldamage.

I've started to use the imp in AV just so I have more mana to spam SoC. The most important part of this tactic is just trying to wait/position yourself so the enemy won't notice you for the 8 or 10 seconds it takes to cast these things. But yeah, that sound when they all go off, and seeing 30+ damage ticks scroll off on your screen... insane

The sound always makes me think of the sound a pack of cards makes when you riffle them - except amplified.

Fully raid buffed I have seen crits of over 3k in Kara on those AoE pulls just before Moroes. But there is a cap on AoE as I have noticed if I crit on too many seeds it doesnt hit the others.
