raising my +hit Follow

#1 Jan 24 2008 at 1:58 AM Rating: Decent
So I know that I've got to cap out my +hit at 43 in order to even set foot in kara (yes I know that there are other stats I have to meet too), but how do I acheive that? I know that there are certain gear that have +hit on them, but it seems like that stat is few and far between. Are there some cheap gems that I can use to get me to the 43 cap? And by cheap I mean like green cuts since I will more than likely be changing them out fairly quickly when I hit kara.

Don't suppose there are any enchants that increase your chance to hit. I did a brief search but didn't see anything, but please feel free to correct me

Thx

Surefooted gives you some hitrating and resist to movement impairing effects/roots, but i havent yet to find an enchanter with that.

I have the opposite problem as you; where the hell to i get new items without hitrating? I'm overcapped already :(
#3 Jan 24 2008 at 4:32 AM Rating: Default
yea the problem with the surefooted enchant is that it is the only enchant that I know of that requires primal nether so not a lot of people have it simply for that reason. Oh and if I remember right it's either a really really low world drop, or a raid drop.

the hit cap is a lot higher then 43....
Its 9% against skull lvl bosses, so (16 x 9 =) 144 without surefooted, the SV talent, with it it is (16 x 6 =) 96 hitrating.

Also, hitrating is the greatest improvement in dps (per point) until you are hitcapped
#5 Jan 24 2008 at 5:27 AM Rating: Decent
sorry, meant to say 143 cap.

You want about 142 hit.
If you are Sv specced you should have Surefooted to reduce this to about 95.

Enchant Boots Surefoot can give you +10 to hit http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=22545;source=live

Rigid yellow gems offer +6/+8 hit

Glinting orange gems offer + agi and +hit

There is some pre-raid kit with nice +hit rating

Cloak of the inciter

for example

About the most viable source of hit for any gear, too bad all your options for hit replace crit but point for point capping your hit is the best damage increase.

yes point for point, hit rating gives you a higher DPS increase (up to the cap) than any other stat.

I never looked specifically for items with +hit and am sitting at about 95 right now, and am about half Kara geared with some blues left from the Pre-Raid gearlist, I'm missing mostly stat items, not biggies, but improvements over what I have.

I personally feel that +hit is great, but when it comes to choosing equpiment and gems for the +hit or other stats... make sure you weigh the benefits of the change. I will for certain sure say that you have at least the 5% increase in hit% which is about 95 +hit, anything above that is awesome and should be an aspiration, but certainly not your ONLY goal.

+10 hit is great but when you lose, 15 Agility, or 15+ crit raiting, or 30+ AP, the +hit can sometimes be overshadowed by the losses, and you could break even, or worse, from the switch. Don't neglect it for sure, but it is not the end all be all of stats, and if you're DPS is good as it is, don't fret about some +hit and just keep gearing yourself up and the +hit will come naturally.

Here is a link to my armory to give you some idea on how to find hit rating gear, enchants and overall improvements.

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Thrall&n=Tavarde

The enchant on the helment is a purchasable item from revered faction with Cenarion Expedition. The boots and cape I got off the AH. The rest as you can see are from one type of orange gem that cost me 30-40g per. As you can also see, that puts me at a Hit Rating of 99. Pretty good start I must say. Before I re-gemmed or got any of the gear I had a hit rating of...3. Probably cost around 600g to add 96 hit rating. Maybe a little more.

So there ya go.

My +hit:
HH repspear: 19 hit
Ravenclaw Band: 13 hit

Heroic Badge necklace: 18 hit
Garona's Signet ring: 18 hit

+10 Ap/4hit gem (epic from some heroic) a +4 hit/+4 agi will do fine too though...
+8 hitrating gem
Helm enchant: +16 hit

Adds up to a total of 96 hitrating (6.09% +hit)
Along with Surefooted that gets me hitcapped.

And there are only 3 epics in that line, and only 1 of those is from a raid instance.

And the repspear, heroic badge necklace, helm enchant and hitrating gem(s) are easy to get and they give a neat 65 hitrating (~4.0625% +hit)

Get some rogue gear from Karazhan. Skulker's Greaves from wherever, Fiendslayer Boots, etc etc.... There are lots of hit rating options from either farming gold or farming KZ. So much in fact that I was throwing hit rating gear away and unequipping the Kara ring for higher dps blues because I was well over 150 hit. Now with some t5's and t5 equivalent gear I have my hit rating back to a respectable 129 (albeit still a bit low for my taste).

In other words, some of that rogue gear which gives you only Agility and Stamina (a major plus in my book, keep your damned intelligence for MM hunters)and Hit, Crit and AP (again keep that mp5 as far away from me as possible, is bad enough we don't have any options with t5 gear and I have to stack it there)is a much beter option for more then hit.

It's not the fastest way to go, but the Season 3 helm, chest and legs have hit rating on them, as well as the S3 hunter-only axe. The helm and chest are better than what you'll find in Karazhan, IMO.

It will take weeks, maybe months to get all those, but it's an option.

Here is a link to a thread I started awhile back comparing s3 gear to t5 gear.
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/class.html?wclass=5;mid=11973334737486639;num=17;page=1

In my opinion the season 3 helm is the best opton you have until t6. The season 3 chest is also one of your best alternatives for PVE content IMO until you get the Ranger-General chest, or t5 chest.

The season 3 2H axe is a steal. They are practically giving it to us. You can probably get a comparable 2H in Zul'Aman but looking at it again, no, best stuff till t6.

All of this stuff has hit rating and should carry you to the end endgame experiences.

Disclaimer: This is all my personal opinion and preference. I also hate people. =)

Not entirely, the 2H sword from Keal'thas is better, but thats the very edge of T5 content anyway.

I don't play a hunter, but what about the ebon netherscale, if you're a LW? Is that stuff any good? I know the 3set is 20 hit rating.

Going throught kara you may get more gear, trinkets and other goodies that will pump your hit rate... 100+ is pretty good,, I'm at about 136 and killing it... I think if you can get around 100 hit rate or over you are doing well and depending on your spec perhaps you should focus on other stats like AP or Agi.

Again, this is IMO... I'm not a #crunching know it all but, a seasoned vet none the less. The pieces will come in time and the stats will scale with you. Focus your game on the game, not the stats. Hit rate is never bad I can assure you but, I wouldn't sacrifice other stats just for a little bit of it here or there.

Pieces of interest though...

Someting people should try to remember, ev though +hit is the greatest improvement in dps per point if you try to get hitcapped pre-raid you will most likely sacrifice a lot of other stats, and thats not worth it.

Getting to 5-6% +hit pre-raid is good and any further probably kills your other stats.

Ebon is a good set due to that set bonus, but You can get better stuff. I got it and it allowed me to focus on other items and gear up faster, but it's not the end all and be all.

This may be true for some gear options, but it doesn't have to be true in all cases. Pre-raiding I reached close enough to the Hit Cap to never see a miss in the Kara WWS logs (137 HR) and the only item I had which I could have gotten better DPS out of equipping an alternative item which I owned was the Terokkar Tablet of Precision. I'm still wearing it, but as soon as I finish my grind for the S3 Helm it'll be retired as my last green.

Thanks for the response on that Xsarus. I was asking because I'm helping the lady friend gear up, and we just got that set made for her for just that reason. This is her hunter. We're working on the glad xbow at the moment as an upgrade. Any suggestions from you or the other hunters around here that know their stuff would be much appreciated as to where to aim for gear next. She can play the class, she's just not exactly a theorycrafter. I just don't know the class well enough to theorycraft it properly, so any input would be appreciated.
