Ok, so I'm slowly working on getting revered with keepers of time for the pants and the head enchant, and wow is that a slow grind; can't seem to find a decently geared group to do dark portal so I'm usually stuck just running durnholde a few times.
Anyways, my question is regarding my defense and avoidance. Logging into the armory I have defense at 418, yes I know I need 490. Dodge at 8.65%, parry 13.48% and block at 13.81%.
So I know I need 490 defense and 102.9%? avoidance. So at this point I have an idea of what gear I need to upgrade, basically any item that's green. So what about the gems? I don't have a large bank account to really get a lot of the rare blue cuts, so I'm hoping that I can just get by with some of the more common green cuts and some enchants in order to reach the 490 defense and 102.9% avoidance. Any help is greatly appreciated

For your 102.4% avoidance, you have to remember to add on the 30% block rating from Holy Shield. There is an avoidance macro available that will calculate your total avoidance for you, just fire Holy shield and click the macro button.
At the moment you want to be looking for blue items with defence and stamina, don't be afraid to go for the warrior tanking drops. As long as you have a decent spelldamage sword (an enchanted spellfire longsword from normal Slave pens, Continuum blade from Keepers of time, or Crystalforged Sword if you can afford it) you don't need any spelldamage on your armour or shield and can just go for items with stamina and defence.
Don't blow your gold on expensive gems at the moment either. Just buy common gems, they cost a tenth of rare ones and are generally on 2 stat points behind.
Don't worry to much about having 490 defence or 102.4% avoidance for now, you dont really need (and won't be getting) these stats until you are finished with normal mode instances and gearing up in the easier heroics getting ready for Kara.

That's probably your best bet for gemming right now. The blue quality ones, at least on my server, are also incredibly cheap (bout 10g where Solid Stars are going for 50g). No need to go overboard until you get something that'll be kept for a while.

Also, if you're trying to get revered with KOT, make sure to do the Kara keyquest chain. You get about 10K rep for completing the quests in Durn and BM. I think I only had to run the instances 4 or 5 times total, along with the quest turnins, to go from neutral to revered. It's by far the fastest way to do it, and you also get your Kara key.
