Mutilate? Shadowstep? Combat? Heeelp!Follow

Hi there people! I just picked my Rogue back up, due to wanting another character in the Outlands. Dinged 50 with her last night, and now I have all these cool possibilities. Is Mutilate worth it for leveling? How about Shadowstep? This is my armory, and my combat spec, using those weapons: Click!

Now, for a Mutilate or perhaps Shadowstep build, I have Shadowblade, which is 1.40 speed, might be a bit fast, so that for offhand might be best? Are any sort of Assassination or Subtlety builds worth it for leveling, or would I gimp myself a lot? I mostly care to have fun, so if there is a spec out there that isn't all that terrible for leveling, please let me know :)

Thanks in advance.

Mutilate rocks for leveling, but I'd wait until 55 to switch (so you can pick up Opportunity). It's got great CP generation, a high potential for burst damage, and best of all, it's fun. Not like Shadowstep "Haha, I can teleport!" kind of fun. More like "Battle isn't monotonous and I pwn faces!" kind of fun.

I completely agree with this statement.

I never tried mut for leveling, but at 62 I specced to shadowstep. It is great for leveling. If you save prep for those "OH SH%@" moments, you will never die. I recommend waiting until at least level 61 though, having Ruthless and Relentess are very important. It is also important to MH a slow, hard hitting weap. Sub daggers = fail.

There is a noticeable decrease in your damage output, but with premed and initiative, you can put up a 5 pt finisher and still have a full energy bar.

I tried both xx / 0 / 41 and 0 / xx / 41 versions. In the combat version, "not enough energy" is a way of life. More energy and more cp = more dead mob.

So, I specced Mutilate at 50 anyway, for fun and stuff. Had been Combat Swords for ages now so, needed a change. Now, I don't really know the best rotation as a Mutilate Rogue. Have been doing Mutilate, Gouge, Mutilate, Eviscerate, then I kinda mix it up ^^

If you have some suggestions, please shout :)

When I was Mutilate specced, I opened like this: CS>Muti>Muti ( if possible)>KS>Muti and from there on i just switched to sword and hit SS a few times :)

Now, at 63, I respecced to Hemo-Shadowstep and find it really fun. Great for those pesky alliance gankers who try and get you while you're questing your *** of.

Back to topic: Try and keep deadly poison on your target for Mutilate, it may kill your gouge or blind but you wont need them on normal mobs. Just remember to switch to crippling/wound when you want to gank someone. And don't forget to enjoy the spec, it may not be as effective as Combat-spec but it makes the gameplay a bit harder and because of that you will be more satisfied when you accomplish your goals.

Rogues FTW

Thank you Balfeor, I have stuck to Combat Swords for quite some time, and it just got mind numbingly boring, so here I am :) It's awesome with Mutilate spec :)

Personally I am leveling with Combat swords these days, a straight forward */41/0. At 70, however, I am gonna mix it up and go 5/35/21 just to see if it works. :D I might try Muti one day tho. Perhaps a 41/0/20 build or the like.

lolwut?

Chances are you'll get better damage out of Wound poison than Deadly on trash mobs since the fights are so short. Better to have a reliable way to get behind the mob, or the option to Blind n' Bind.

One of the great things about combat builds is combat potency.

This build may be fun and will probably be more effective in PVP, but it won't do anywhere near the DPS in PVE without potency, ruthlessness, or relentless strikes.
