Lifebloom - woah!Follow

I'm a newly dinged 64 druid and just ran my first instance healing with Lifebloom. Though I'm a feral spec, I enjoy healing and have kept my healing gear up to date. I probably have to drink after fights more frequently than dedicated healers, but my tank never dies before I do, so I think I do OK. But with when I used Lifebloom, I overhealed more than what is typical for me.

The method I've seen the most on the various boards I track is to keep 3LBs stacked on the tank, heal others as needed. My question though is when/if to allow the 3LBs to expire? For much of our run, I kept the stack working through the entire fight, even during the brief pauses as we waited for the banish to wear off since the tank was always near full health and I didn't want to waste the bloom. But then the battle ended, and the bloom hit the nearly healed tank for a big OH anyway. I started to experiment with stacking to three and then letting them bloom and reapply and I tried keeping the stack running until the boss was under 10-15% health then letting the bloom go.
I also threw LB's around on the rest of the party if they took damage beyond what rejuvination would heal. By the end of the run (successful, btw) I knew I'd found my new favorite heal, but also knew I still had no clue on how to use it effectively.

I'm wondering if someone can point me towards some "Lifebloom 101" guides? Or give me your tips and advice.

I'm not a resto druid, but I plan to be once I get to 70. You have a few things wrong in your original post though.

1. HoT druids typically have the lowest OH of any healer, simply because HoTs do not "tick" if the tank is topped off. Try it for yourself. Put some HoTs on yourself when you're at full health, and you'll see nothing in your combat log.

2. The bloom from Life Bloom does not count as healing done by you, and thus will not contribute to your overhealing. This has the additional benefit of the target getting the threat caused by the bloom, which is one reason to allow the bloom effect to happen on a tank (he will get the threat).

The reason most people try to keep a full stack on the tank is that it's more mana efficient than letting the bloom effect happen. Casting LB once every 7 seconds once you've got a full stack will refresh the duration of the 3 stack, which is much better than having to reapply all 3 (which takes 3 GCDs instead of 1).

While our Hot's won't appear on the overhealing meter, wasted healing/mana is still wasted healing/mana.

Keeping the 3stack on the tank the whole fight is the most mana efficient way to heal. If needed you can throw in a rejuv or regrowth or even a healing touch. I usually throw a lifebloom on anyone who has taken damage, if they are still being hit or below about 3/4 health I will also add a rejuv but that should be enough for DPS (as long as the tank picks the mob up quickly).

If the tanks health is low you can let it bloom for a bit of burst healing, but it does cost you some mana which ususally won't matter too much.
