I'm in the process of upgrading my newbish healadin's gear. I haven't really started in on the level 70 normal instances yet. I hope I am able to fill in my weak spots with a number of the items off stickie. But until I am able to get those drops, I need to gear up as best as I can. I was having some survivability issues last night in BM. Mostly because my heal gear only gives me about 6k health points.

I've recently acquired all of the plans for the Khorium Ward set.

Equipping this set would boost my health and mana by about 1k each, and my +heal by 100 or so at the expense of maybe 1% crit total. Clearly it's an upgrade, but it will also require about a week of material grinding for me (since I can only play an hour or two a day).

I've been keeping my eyes on the AH for upgrades..but there isn't much available. Plus I am saving for my epic so I am pretty cheap at the moment. Don't want to spend more than 40-50 gold per piece if I can help it.

Questions:
1)Is it worthwhile to invest the time in crafting this set as a "band-aid" measure?

2)How long could these pieces last me if I am unable to get the drops I need?

3)Are there any better pieces available through the AH for a reasonable price? (currently looking for Girdle of Divine Blessing)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

its not a bad set, i suppose, but if you don't have the mats already, i'd farm the instances for the peices mentioned in the sticky. doint an instance a night you'll probably fill in your set faster with better gear than trying to farm those mats. thats my opinion anyway.

1) Yes. I bought those pieces off the AH because I wasn't into blacksmithing and hence I couldn't get the set bonus. Even so, they were pretty good for their time.

2) They last until you find something better to replace them. IIRC I replaced the legs with the Starcaller's Legguards, the belt with the Girdle you mentioned and I can't remember what I put on my feet.

An alternative to these replacements would be when you've gained enough Badges of Justice, then the items listed in Dilbrt's stickied post.

3) Price is determined locally on each realm so you'll have to find out for yourself. You're also the only person who can say what's "reasonable". However, other than the Girdle of Divine Blessing, I don't recall getting other items off the AH myself.

This absolutely was the plan...but my low health points have been scaring the crap out of me recently. I actually grouped with a mage the other day who had 1k more hp than me. I was shocked and a little ashamed. And last nights BM run showed me that my survivability could be improved upon. The few days it will take to make this set could end up making my instance runs so much smoother. Plus I have been incrediably unlucky with drops recently. Haven't rolled on a useful item in weeks.

I heard that farming the plans for those took the longest time... :) Nice job.

Just out of curiosity - what is your health, mana, +Heal, and MP5 at right now? Also, if you keep on dying due to getting beat down, maybe you need a better tank :)

I've noticed that I can run the same instance many times - do great one run, die a lot the next run. My playing style stays the same, but the PUG around me changes. Most of the time, I'd die because I pull aggro off the tank (by using Flash of Light). Yes, the tank is usually a moron. The other day I was running with a warrior tank who would only tank 1 mob, while the rest of the group got beat down. Then, another time I ran with a warrior that didn't like to use Thunderclap. He said that he is afraid of breaking CC....don't get me started on this one... Yes, these were Outland instances too.

Also, I ran into the same issue with a Pally who didn't want to use Consecration for the same thing...

Now, when I get a good solid tank...I barely ever get hit.

In conclusion, your survivability might be based on your group, and not your stats. Just something to think about...

I recently got the set from our BS in my guild. Its a nice set, till I get the stuff from dungeons and badges. Would have been great if I BS too, just to get the extra +healing from it.

Thanks. :-) I happened to run across the belt plans while questing in Nagrand. It took me about 7 kills for the Boot plans. The worst was the pants, which took about 75 kills. I count myself lucky since I've read where some people haven't got full set after 400+ kills.

I would link my armory...but I logged out in questing/dps gear. I can approximate my unbuffed stats though. Health= 5700, Mana= 6500, +heal= 700, holy crit= 18%, mp/5= 85. I'm no where near herioc/kara gear but I manage to keep my groups alive. I really don't have issues with my tank since I almost never draw aggro. And I don't want to say I "get beat down" either, I'm usually the last to die in wipe situations. My recent problems are stemming from boss AOE's and spell attacks that hit multiple members of the group. Shadow bolts and such which can't be avoided even at max heal range. And my shadow resist aura does jack against most boss hits. I get hit with a couple of those shadow bolts and I'm scrambling to heal myself, which forces me to take my focus off the tank/dps for few seconds. It doesn't seem like much...but that couple of seconds sometimes means the life of a group member. I really think a boost to my HP would give me a lot more breathing room. This sets boost to my STA is very attractive.

By the way, these things drop off of one type of ghost mob in Netherstorm. This was probably the ONLY time I found track undead to be useful. Check that it wasn't just useful...it was amazing. :-)

Ahhhh - track undead. The only other time I used it was in Duskwood. I almost forgot that I had it.....lol.

As for the survivability thing - the Stamina will definitely help out. I know what you are talking about when you see the tank's life going down, your life is barely existent, Divine Shield and Divine Favor and Blessing of Protection are all on CD....YIKES!!!! That is the fun part of healing....imo :)

I usually end up doing a quick LoH on tank, drink pot, and try and get a Holy Light on myself. If I don't get it off before I die, at least the tank is at full health (or closer to it). Who knows....it is sometimes enough to survive the encounter... Good fun.

Either way, it sounds like the new gear is an upgrade. That is good no matter what. Enjoy the new gear!!!!

You can use it in SLabs to see the hidden skeletons before they jump out at you. They pop up on the mini-map.
